How he operated at Reims last season was very much like a ball carrying 8. In the first half of the season, he mostly played in a midfield partnership with Matusiwa who was the DM, then Richardson would then have the license to play like a box to box ball carrier 👍🏻

The difference is that for most teams their signings have actually improved their starting XI whilst ours have been mostly for back-up (with the exception of Fatawu who we had anyway). In the meantime we've lost KDH, Nacho, Doyle, Praet and Albrighton.

Okoli has clearly been signed for the first team, and De Cordova Reid is clearly an upgrade on Praet/Albrighton. Out of that list of departures, KDH and maybe Iheanacho are the only first team players. 

 

There is nothing on this list that remotely worries me at this stage of the season:

From what I can see this guy looks pretty poor on the ball. Imagine his defensive and attacking stats being skewed high are due to the fact he's 6'6 for handy in both boxes for set pieces.

 

Paying £10-15m for midfielder that's not very good in his position but is good at being tall seems about right for us.

It is possible that we will not sign everyone linked with us and actually maybe we need to trust the process - our record generally since Glover arrived has been pretty good !
