I don't suspect it's Potter who will be interested in the Manchester United job if Ten Haag does get sacked. Could see a domino effect, with managerial changes this international break.

Man Utd is a big club that has been a basket case for a number of years and needs somebody with a very strong character to transform its culture. Given that Potter was sacked after less than seven months when given such an opportunity at Chelsea, I can't see Man Utd touching him with a bargepole unless they literally have zero due diligence (which I suppose is possible).

I'm not arguing that he needs longer. I'm explaining why our board won't sack him after the six results we've had so far, and what might eventually prompt them to do it.

Fair enough

No doubt.

When we were playing Sevilla in the Champions League, Villa were languishing mid-table in the Championship. Their return to an elite standard of football has been pretty remarkable, even in a sport where things change very quickly.

The difference between us and them is that they appointed the right man, at the right time and have built upon their success every season.

We pissed our success up the wall in the most disgusting way possible.

Additional to this, even during their poor periods villa have had good infrastructure in place as well as history. We had none of this and when we achieved we were shocked and surprised of the speed of our success. The period where we achieved 2 5th place finishes and was the time to build, but that also when Covid hit, which affect our owners more then most!

Pains me to see Aston Villa besting Bayern in the Champions League. We had a chance to appoint Unai Emery but we dropped a total howler. What a waste of opportunity. Us and Villa are worlds apart now.

I genuinely hate Unai Emery and wouldn't want him to be are manager (although no denying that he is very capable)

Kasper Hjulmund would 100% manage us. He has knowledge of our Danish contingent and he would actually play progressive football. We don’t have to play how Enzo wanted us to play but bringing in a manager who will give them a good shape and patterns of play to improvise off then we will have a much better chance of staying up this season.

He'd be our first Danish Kasper!

Openly admit I struggle to watch Villa more than any other club. Always remember the 4-1 at their place when Vardy scored 2. We were miles ahead. The change in fortunes is very hard to take. I understand it’s psychological and my problem but I’d be surprised if other city fans don’t feel the same.

I do too, and I work with a Villa fan, just pains me to see it….. it makes you realise how badly we ****ed things up……..

It's perhaps a bit of a toss up who gets relieved of their duties first ie our manager or Southampton's?

In an ideal world it would be us first in order get a first approach in for a likely successor. However, can anyone actually think of someone really decent who'd be currently available and also likely to come? I can't personally think of one!

Moyes or Coberan  or Potter

Villa have employed v capable people to run their club

together with owners prepared to invest as much as is allowed they have recruited a top quality coach and ‘hey presto’ …….

it has always been thus. Villa are way bigger than us. Sure we were miles ahead of them for a while, but nothing lasts forever. If it did frankly what would be the point? There would be no jeopardy. Man City will blow up at some point, and we will laugh. We will always have Spurs to laugh at. My first away game was at Villa in 1981, and I just loved the vastness of the place. Proper fans, and last night must have been wonderful, just as Seville was for us.

If it makes you feel any better, they won't be allowed to progress any further.

On the positive side, it does show how quickly things can be turned around in football if you get the right manager in post and he is given good financial backing.

Yeah not really a case of bigger club or them being successful per se. More so a case of their rise completely coinciding with our demise. Their leadership made one good decision (after a number of poor ones) and ours made a collection of poor ones. The switch was instant rather than gradual. I think that is the hard bit when watching them.

His days are numbered imo, I suspect we will make a change come this international break, fingers crossed.

No chance, he could walk in and drop a log on Tops desk and he wouldn't sack him. The guy hasn't got a ruthless bone in his body.

Yes, I always think about how that season was a real sliding doors moment. They gave Gerrard the push and got Emery in, whilst we stuck with Rodgers. And like you, I also have a problem watching Villa, such is the change in our respective fortunes.

I can't find it now so maybe I'm mis remembering but I thought his reaction/ non statement defending fer nino after he snapped Fofana's leg in half was awful and never really forgiven him for that.

I also think he tends to send his teams out to hurt the opposition and it leads to things like that happening.

But no doubt it's effective

It's not couldn't care less how he speaks

Was kidding, seemed unlikely. Must admit I do not know what he said about that tackle.

Fair I just had to make it clear that it wasn't because of that because some people can and do irrationally hate him for that.

I think it's more that he didn't really say anything that bothered me

He talks well but made Denmark play awfully boring football. No passion, too defensively. Denmark have although qualified for Euros and World Cups the performance under Hjulmand has been terrible. So I am not so sure he has the balls for the Premier League.
