If he insists on parking the bus, then there must be some counter-attacking threat, ie pace, to at least keep some of the opposition occupied and not to just keep pouring forward. Sometimes an attacker is a defensive move for that reason. Ayew was knackered. Play with two wingers and stretch them. 6

Steve Cooper would love to have a player like Rickey pre injuries at his disposal. Ah yes. The man who played 39 games in the league for us last season cannot play suddenly at this level with no change in between. What on earth are you basing that on? 1 1
dbtcity Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 (edited) He really is a god awful manager who’s seemingly restricting us! How we’ve not seen a starting line up with both Mavididi and Fatawu starting at the same time is absolutely criminal! His in game management with tactical tweeks and substitutions are almost as bad he just doesn’t seem to have a clue what he’s doing! Iraola like the majority of our fans knew what the game plan was the second half so opted to whip his two full backs off and replace them with attackers knowing Cooper ball was in full effect and we rarely looked like even attempting to leave our own half… hopefully the first win in the bag changes him but realistically I just can’t see it Edited 5 October 2024 by dbtcity 2 1
sylofox Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 You can't win games if you just go out to defend. Yet that's his answer in every game. When we are on the front foot we look good and not out of our depth. Soon as he makes us sit back and defend we look fvcked. Most of the goals we've conceded are when we are trying to hold on. 1

If you class what I said as abuse then I'm concerned over for you during your 40 years on this planet. Is part of the problem at the club happy clappers liker your self? Yes it's a big problem that needs to be erased and has been for a few years now. Problem with happy clappers is that they accept lacklustre performances and have no ambition, this is a massive reason this club will never advance. I do apologise if you feel like what I said has abused you but in reality it is "Fans" like your self that is part of the problem. That's my opinion as you are entitled to yours however the quicker this guy goes the better. I will give Cooper 1 decent prop thou he can set a team up well against decent opposition he just ruins it for approximately 75 mins of a game with his in game management. Needs to be sacked. Popular Post Walshy5 Posted 5 October 2024 Popular Post Posted 5 October 2024 Today's result changes nothing! So lucky to get over the line. We won in spite of him, not because of him! In fact it's probably done us more harm than good because it will prolong his tenture! 5 1

The Quick Brown Fox Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 I don't understand any coach that brings back all of the players into our own box defending corners or free kicks. Give us an out and make them keep a couple of players back and leave a player up the field. 1

RGFox Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 Don't get the late late subs. Midfield unable to hold onto the ball. Need to swap out a few on 60 mins. Edouard cameo was daka v2. Defence was ok but I don't (,like most) get how we can't get Ricky into the team Also criminal for soumare to play any mins with his ambling closing down.

Product of 84 Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 I think Cooper is terrified of making substitutions. He doesn't think he has the players on the bench to play his way. I don't like his way. But I concede his way keeps us in games and the score tight. What I really dislike is we have 3 players in our back 4 who can't play the ball through the lines. This keeps us penned in. It's going to be interesting as to whether Vesteguard gets his place back. Okoli and Kristenson have several good attributes but playing the ball into midfield is where they are poor. Ricky P could/would help but for the fact he and Winks will want to play like last season. Which is why we won't be seeing much of either going forward. Again I don't like it but it isn't going to change as long as Cooper keeps us getting about a point a game and keeps the goal difference down. Currently, he isn't going anywhere. Sadly. 2

He is certainly not the messiah, he has lead a low confidence team to a hard earner, yet lucky victory. I just hope that if he does remain (not bothered either way) that he can cause the group to push on from here. Why would the Champions of the Championship have such low confidence though? Cooper’s comments since joining have been hideous, he has zero in game tactics and his apparent obsession with PL experience sum up his very clear limitations. 1

Agree with you, this idea just ****s me off…… I think because of the relegation and the PSR issues people seem to think we’re shit….. that’s not the case, we’ve made some poor decisions off the field which have caused us to decline….. but we’re not ****ing Burnley, we’ve still got plenty of money, we just need to make sure we’re not being frivolous with it and wasting it on shit players…… like ****ing Ayew. Id put my mortgage on the line saying that if we had Bournemouth’s manager, we would be playing much better than this. Cooper is tactically inept and just can’t get to grips with this team….. we were let off big style today, it’s alright the Cooperites coming out of the woodwork when we win, but it was still a horrific performance. The players were fighting for the badge today, which is one good thing, as it means they’ve got something about them. Edited 5 October 2024 by Pliskin 1

Because the guy they did it with left, because we were under a likely penalty and because we are going to be in the highest league level, basically lots of churn, but it is also possible I read it totally wrong. Could be that the lack of confidence comes from Cooper, and his careful safety first game plan, loathe to call it tactics.
Bilo Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 We're on six points, but with decent game management and tactics against Palace, Everton and Arsenal, we'd be on 11. There's nothing wrong with the players in a league where Ashley Young still plays at LB and Forest have started strongly despite being reliant on Chris Wood for goals. This win will buy him a bit of time, but a minimum of 4 points is needed from Forest, Southampton and Ipswich. 4
funkyrobot Posted 5 October 2024 Posted 5 October 2024 (edited) The depressing thing for me is Cooper will only ever play one winger. His obsession with his method of creating the central box of four has to include a wide player so he’ll go with Buonanotte or Ayew as the non winger when he plays Mavididi or BDCR or Ayew as the non winger when he plays Fatawu. They’ll very rarely play together. For me, this system makes it easier to defend. You know where the wide danger is and can overload in this area as the spare attacker becomes one of the the two fullbacks and neither are usually likely to have a day like JJ did last week. This is in part because neither are particularly skilful attackers and also because they have significant defensive duties as they play in a flat back 4. Today he seemed to play a 442 but even then preferred a non winger and a pragmatic 2nd forward foil in Ayew. This when we are at home against Bournemouth. He could’ve played Fatawu wide right, with Buonanotte central behind Vardy.🤷🏻♂️ Edited 5 October 2024 by funkyrobot 2
