Spudulike Posted 15 November 2024 Posted 15 November 2024 So Rachel, you weren't actually an 'Economist' then? Right oh, glad that's cleared up. So what are your qualifications for the post you currently hold?

There could be a mass exodus of tech talent from the USA in the near future and, with it, an opportunity for someone to house it. Edited 15 November 2024 by Dunge

Does the UK have the infrastructure and resources to give this talent what it deserves?

Grebfromgrebland Posted 15 November 2024 Posted 15 November 2024 I was thinking career wise and lifestyle. It's very limited in the UK to have a good outdoor lifestyle with the poor weather and pollution.

On general temperate conditions it's better than a fair few places, and far less polluted than South and East Asia tbh. Outdoorwise the UK isn't all that lacking - it's the resources that allow for career where the issue may be.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 16 November 2024 Posted 16 November 2024 Abortion won’t happen in this country largely because there’s not much to contest it either side. Yanks have had it from both sides where the far left want insane limits where you can abort it almost a month before conception then you’ve got the fundamentalist right, we don’t really have than dynamic here 2

Sly Posted 17 November 2024 Posted 17 November 2024 So, Biden has sanctioned the use of long range missiles for Ukraine against Russia then. Is this going to escalate further then?

Some have suggested today’s attack on the energy system was a pre-emptive attack in response to this. 1

I note it’s happened at a time when it’s unlikely to get an emotional counter from Russia, precisely as you say because they’re waiting for Trump. But it does look like the whole thing will escalate in terms of body count if nothing else over the coming couple of months as Russia attempt to define as deep a front line as possible and try to bully the Ukrainian public and parliament into accepting as many concessions as possible. I reckon it’s also trying to define the rules for any future conflict too. It has a danger of Russia deciding the reverse is also acceptable (ie providing munitions to the direct enemies of NATO countries), although this Russia would likely make up an excuse to do that anyway if they so desired. 3

When you look at your old man and think, yup, I wanna be just like him!
