Capital Gains tax? Regardless of who pays the tax, the estate was paid with tax paid money, if you can give it to your wife or husband entirely then why shouldn't you give it to your kids. It's often not as simple as just gifting it to your kids before the 7 years are up as capital gains tax is a factor.

Exactly!

Ohhhh ok understood. I thought you were saying they should be able to gift it free of any taxes.

It’s astounding how many working class people go into bat for idiots like Clarkson that brag about how they’re getting around paying taxes.

It's deliberate ignorance at the extreme ends of society. Somehow twonks wear it like a badge of honour.

Can anyone answer me this?  because I'm really not sure of the answer... I have a suspicion or an opinion... but no way to really verify it.

Lots of farmers are talking about the money they make from "farming"...  and they are all very careful to mention the money from Farming... I'm assuming this relates to the crops / livestock etc...

However, I also know that lots of farmers have diversified.   Having things like Holiday lets on the land, or even things like micro breweries / pubs, Butchers (I assume selling their own meat) and lots food manufacturing companies for things like dairy.

I assume they set up these additional businesses under other trading names and they aren't "technically" linked to the "Farming" activity.  SO whilst it may be true, that they are only achieving £20k profit from farming... could they actually be earning much more in total that isn't included in the farming calculation?

Lets also not forget, that the £20k profit is effectively spending money... because they have no mortgage and I imagine that their vehicles,  clothes and the like go through the "farming business".

On the topic of gross, (uncharged due to legal eagling) sex trafficker Matt Gaetz on the charm offensive in the Senate today.

I wonder how many Senate Repubs might actually have a hint of principle left and not confirm him?

Will Twitter/X be  worried by the emergence  of Bluesky?

Guess once a few go across  then more will.

But will it end up as much the same?

It has the functionality lacking from Threads and a working level of moderation. Tack on the lack of ads and that it can’t be sold to a twat, it’s Twitter for adults.

I’m waiting for the trolls and anger junkies to realise they’re just shouting at each other and trying to goad bot farms.

John Prescott has died.

I didn't always agree with John 2 Jags Prescott but he was a true conviction politician and extremely likable.

I cheered to the rafters when he punched that egg throwing scum bag.

RIP JP

Certainly gave as good as he got and could be pretty blunt/direct.

RIP.

Yes I think with the punch incident it initially left Blair speechless and there were long discussions about it.

John Prescott said 'well you told me to connect with the electorate'.

When quizzed in the next days election press conference all Blair could say was 'John's John' and I think everyone knew what he meant and the vast majority of the country got behind him.

He was an under rated colossal political figure

He went from "two jags" to "two jabs"  another politician that likes to think of himself as working class and "man of the people"  where as in reality just as much of a hypocrite as the rest of them.

What about John Prescott wasn't working class?

Absolutely zero chance of him ever being arrested and tried, especially with America backing him. countries like America don't even recognise the criminal courts legality.
