In all honesty though, I expected more negative commentary about Sadiq Khan getting a gong than Southgate considering the mess he apparently made of London under his watch.

Spot on there. Another example of rewarding failure.

Not sure I can deal with people in the provinces telling me actually London's improved massively in the seven years I've lived here.

We’re in national decline, everywhere is getting worse including London and the provinces. Khan to be fair is one of the only politicians that gets stuff done although that can be perceived either way.

How is Musk’s interference in the German election not a bigger scandal? If the Russians were doing what he is then the outcry would be insane. You have the richest person in the world (his worth is more than the GDP of 50% of countries) fully interfering with a sovereign states election.

And exactly the same might be said of his burgeoning (and only just beginning) interference in the UK political process.

It will only end horribly. For the UK, Germany, the US, and the entire human species.

It is thought that they are doing, and it all gets hushed up.

If you get a knighthood for not winning anything, what do you get if you lift the world cup? A titwank from the Queen?

Im not keen but purely from a scientific perspective I think it would work

I think you will find Khan won his last three mayoral elections.  Now I wonder where the last two Tory candidates for major are now..........................of ye in the House of  Lords:whistle:.  Now remind me who is guilty of rewarding failure.

He may have won the elections but his record speaks for its self...

Knife crime is rampant and out of control.

Phone thefts is a regular occurrence.

1 rape reported every hour in London. Antisemitism has skyrocketed. Antisemites & Islamists emboldened. Nightlife decimated.

The crime rate in London is unacceptable and that is something he is responsible for overseeing.

I don’t see the value in rewarding a politician whilst they’re still in office. However, I didn’t realise Khan was responsible for austerity. Nonetheless, his record is indifferent albeit living standards have become worse across the whole country. Unless you live in a select few market towns.

I think he's done ok but one of the problems for Khan is that he sometimes acts like someone with a lot more power than he really has, like calling on Teresa May to stop Donald Trump from visiting London, then people wonder why he's blamed for stuff that isn't really his fault. I would also say living in London there is also a slight cult of personality about him, he is very visible on new projects like the Overground rebrand, so again the "this is Khan's London" stuff from the right wing is less surprising. The decline of London's nightlife though is certainly something that can at least be partially blamed on his office, and it's an embarrassment that it's so bad in what is supposed to be one of the greatest cities in the world.

As I am sure you well know,  the only part of the criminal justice system the major has any control over is police and even there he shares responsibility with the Home Secretary,  so struggling to see how you can say he his responsible for overseeing the increase in  crime,  which of course we have seen across the country.

George Soros has been doing this for decades 🤔 …but that’s ok because he’s on the left 🙄 but god forbid someone on the right does the same thing!
Not surprised with comments like this on this ‘ cesspit of a left wing thread’ .
I thought sites like this were meant for debate but await the usual outrage and pile on from the usual 5- 10 posters who treat this like their personal boy’s club.

Oh look I am being cancelled,  the modern retort,  along with woke, of the right when others don't agree with their unpleasant views.

Traditional nightlife is declining around the world, not just a London thing - article on FT about it today. Subscribe to read

The best thing about London is it constantly evolves, like NYC. People are more concerned about health and aren't as rich and frivolous with their cash as the boomers were. I have no need to get trollied in MoS or fabric until 6am when there are so many other options for entertainment.

If you want to talk about the left holding the right to higher standards than they do themselves (and vice-versa) then there’s a decent point to make. But the self-pity doesn’t do your argument any favours.

There used to be proper nightclubs where you could have a meal and watch live music and or comedy. Trouble was these were expensive places to run and needed a lot of staff and performers which needed paying.

Wouldn’t be so bad if they gave us some info on this Soros involvement in government(s).
You know, something we could fact check ourselves using reputable sources.

I’ve read that he was a Nazi back in the day (fact checked and debunked), owns Antifa and Black Lives Matter (fact checked and debunked) funded the “not my president” protests against Trumps 2016 election win (fact checked and debunked) to name a few. Most of these conspiracy theories have come from the likes of Steve Bannon and his followers, normally without any proof whatsoever.
My fear for 2025 is that this is going to get worse.

Yet in convinced there's an appetite for a cabaret/club scene. I've seen a couple restaurants that seem to have an act on tonight (Nye).

Problem is, as you say, the rent + rates + utilities.+ 2x  chefs at 45k a year + cost of foodstuffs and brewery drinks + fixtures fittings + entertainment + service staff. And only viable three nights a week max. Impossible.
