In a season which has been a cross between a car crash and an abortion all the way through, you have to cling onto and hope for the little things. And those red ba@#£@rds missing out on the champions league is a thing of beauty. And I will always remember that 2 2 draw that ended it all.

We're in Prague and I've just spent the last two hours in a bar looking at my phone and cheering Chelsea on. Happy days 🥳🥳🥳🥳

I get how they'd feel tonight. European football is great. Tbh, I was t too fussed that we fell into EL and missed CL. Want too fussed when we fell into the conference league from EL. Warsaw, Athens, Moscow, Naples, Rome, Rennes, Prague, Eindhoven. Proper cities, proper names.

The difference is, they will be playing the equivalents of Randers and Luhansk and, at absolute best, Braga. With no prospects of EL teams dropping in to raise the profile. It's fun, but it's not proper European football

It's the post Messi/Ronaldo clarity. Nothing was gonna top the 2010-2020 era of peak football. So of course anything we see now is a downgrade.

None of these teams would beat teams from the early 2000s.

Probably name 2-3 world class strikers in the world these days when there used to be 2-3 in each league

Successful season I'd say.

This was the opportunity for Forest.

Luck that was nothing short of uncanny, Manchester United and Tottenham genuinely abhorrent, Manchester City on a downward spiral for much of it, Aston Villa with an almighty injury crisis for much of the season, Wood with form that surely won't be replicated again at 34, Milenkovic and Murillo forming arguably the best CB pairing in the league and Gibbs-White coming of age.

Remove any one of those and they're either too uncompetitive, leaky or shotshy to finish above 10th. The only one of them they're even likely to hold on to next season is the CB pairing, and that's if Simeone or someone else big doesn't want Murillo.

If they were going to make UCL or win anything, it had to be this season. Everything had lined up perfectly for them. I predict in years to come they'll be pondering what might have been if they'd beaten Leicester at home.

tbf can understand it in a way with the Rodgers incident, as that was no way a foul or anything as the keeper didnt have the ball,

but as said already, theyve had their fair safe of var decisions going their way, that Sheff Utd "none goal" that was in which basically kept them in the league

think the main issue is the officials and VAR have been incredibly poor once again this season

And they have probably had decisions go their way too .

No certainty  VAR would have given that goal either .

Some will say was an example of an error that people would have to accept if there was no VAR at all .

Guess the frustration is that there is and the ref didn’t allow the system to come into play .

I did indeed.

The sheer amount that had to align for them this season was ridiculous. It won't align in the same way again.

I'm not saying they'll be in a relegation battle this season, but expect them to be competing with the blue half of Liverpool rather than the red half.

Who gives a fvck about Forest though? Genuinely.

I'm 45 years old, we've NEVER been in direct competition.

If we're shit, they're good and vice versa.

The closest they're getting to a glamour tie is Lazio. Even from La Liga and the Bundesliga, it's Rayo Vallecano and Mainz respectively. Like you say, fun but not glamorous. And certainly not the kinds of match that's going to attract the calibre of player they'll want to replace those who they're going to lose this summer due to finances.

It’s not just that. The 90s was better than this too. So many more individuals across European football making it exciting. Romario, Ronaldo, Bergkamp, Baggio, Hagi, Laudrup, Recoba to name a few.

These sorts of players aren’t allowed to express themselves anymore, dribbling and shooting from distance is largely discouraged. Yes, there’s still technical skill, but not the flair to go with it.

Forest going back to being bang average would be good for us. Helps us with scouting young players as well as limiting their bragging rights. Not to mention puncture their enormous egos a bit.

May the gap between us never be as big as the reverse was between 2015 and 2021.

But also Rennes, PSV and Roma. The UECL was a far stronger competition when we played in it because of clubs like us dropping down from the UEL.

That's the point. All they will play are Randers, Braga and Luhansk. Our least interesting games. They won't be playing any of the classic football cities we did. As @Bilo points out, the only possible proper game they might have is Lazio.

That's just wrong though. We were both pushing for championship playoffs in the 2010/2011/2012 era.

I can only imagine some of their away turnouts won't be all that either. Good luck getting to Armenia and Israel midweek.

They wanted to " do a Leicester" and by bombing out of the Champions League after being in the places all season they did just that.

Almost as funny as that season where they managed to get turned over in the play offs with a 4 goal swing a few years ago.

Pretty normal for a rivalry anyway

Pompey/Southampton, Villa/Blues, Sunderland/Newcastle etc hardly ever go head to head with each other for the same thing
