It also shouldn’t have been a free kick in the 1st place, ref only gave it due to the fan reaction.

Ultimately VAR has let the officials become worse as there is something that bails them out. Could the Lino have not raised it forgetting there was no VAR and they are told not to if unsure? Whatever the reasoning he doesn’t belong at this level if getting that wrong

F VAR.

THis is the perfect example where people try and go "gotcha"

I'd happily have last night's decision multiple times a season, the net "value" of VAR is a huuuuuge negative on the game. Correcting the odd blatent mistake doesn't make up for how much life and enjoyment it sucks out of the game.

Amen.

It's the standard of officiating that's the problem. You shouldn't be running the line at an Under-5s game if you can't flag an offside like that.

This is the same linesman who only last Feb wrongly ruled out the Daka goal that cost us at Leeds...

So you'd rather have your team knocked out of the cup by a clear and obvious error than have the rules applied fairly? Semi automated offside needs to come in asap. The cost to club morale and potentially finances could be significant.

I'm for goal line tech and semi automated offsides 100%. Quick decisions and minimal interruption.

I'm not for a bunch of blokes overanalysing replays looking for any excuse to send a player off or disallow a goal. So yes, 100% I prefer the game to be enjoyable as a whole rather than biased self-interest.

If I wanted perfection I'd just sit and watch the computer play itself on FIFA.

We appoached the 2nd half like we were going to lose anyway and morale is smashed. Cost will be minimal as morale couldn't get any worse and the cup is not a money spinner for Premier league teams.

If the lino was corrupt he'd have given BDCR offside, who I thought was 100% off on first watch till I saw the united player in the background lol

People bemoaning VAR not being in use. If the officials could make basic key decisions then we wouldn't need VAR in the first place.

Var makes it more difficult to blatantly cheat..... they still do it to a degree, but it's more difficult.

Even if he forgot should have the balls to correct his decision. Have seen flags go up late in the past or refs blow their whistle a second later after thinking about it. He knew it and bottled it

amazing how the decisions seem to go againtst us isnt it

almost like a conspiracy

Honestly still cant get over how bad the 2 decisions where one after another last night, these officials are "supposed" to be some of the best in the world, the PGMOL tries to play itself off as one of the best in the world;

how can it when decisions like that come about

Ive said it numerous times this season already but the standards of officials etc in this country arent getting any better, its in fact getting worse.

that offside decision last night is probably the worst decision ive seen this season, as it was so so plain to see

Yep.

I also don't buy the excuse of 'he can't see any blue because Maguire is in his way'. Well wouldn't that mean even more that he's offside? At the very least level with a player? Maguire is a big lad but he's not Mark fvcking Henry where he can overshadow several players with his frame lol

I always thought that lino's had the same half both sides

It’s absolutely no excuse but I think the “problem” was that usually it’s one player in an offside position, he may have focused on the two furthest forward waiting to see if they become involved in play (I always say they are as they’re affecting the GK’s position). He’s watching those when Maguire comes in from just behind them and he may argue that he can’t have eyes on all 4-5 at the same time. Ditching the “becoming involved” bull rule would stop this happening, he could immediately flag for the lot of them but I would suggest that is what has happened, he’s put all his focus on the 2 furthest forward.

Logically did he actually think Maguire had outpaced his marker and got to it first? Harry Usain Bolt in disguise Maguire :D. Just funny that it’s always rich 6 that get these decisions (or non decisions) go there way.

Wow, he just needs taking out (put it down uncle Charlie), out of the game, complete refresher on the basics or better still retire. You can’t charge people £65+ to watch and then provide officials like him, this is top level professional sport not Hackney marshes on a Sunday morning.

Last nights problem wasn’t because there was no VAR. it’s because the lino was incompetent. Lino should have been dealt with after making earlier howlers.

Even Roy Keane mentioned this was an example of the big sides getting dodgy decisions in their favour.

Exactly. He can't just guess that there's someone playing Maguire onside.

Can't believe people think that is just woeful or a mistake. Literally the image captures the ref, the players the kick being taken and shows indisputable evidence numerous players including the goal scorer Maguire to be clearly offside.

So what was the reason the linesman didn't give it? This maybe he thought VAR was in use is BS. He's a professional official ffs.  We need to know why this happened, it can only be corruption or a desire to see man u through or Leicester out. It shouldn't be like that in this day and age.

We should all be asking our club and the FA to pursue this until it's resolved.
