The difference between him as a championship ref and a the prem refs was clear for me, tried to let stuff go where he could and made for an entertaining game. Thought we were harsher penalised first half but it evened out.

He wasn’t bad.

However a general point on some of the fouls Soucek does. It was dangerous what he did to Justin just before half time. He pushes him into Mads. The bloke is like Kane in the way he aerially attacks the ball. More of a general point than a moan at this particular ref

Thought the ref was good last night.

VAR took an age but seemingly got things right. Poor system but the right calls are important. It’ll be much better with the auto (semi-auto?) system being used.

Also, anyone got a replay of the very ‘strong’ challenge late on in the 2nd half?

He got the big decisions right which is the most important thing. West Ham won’t be wanting him to ref them any time soon from their fans reactions though.

What challenge are you referring to?

nah, it was a foul. Soucek looks for where Mads is, makes no attempt to play the ball and leans in. if he even jumps to challenge it's a different story but as is it's clear he's just gone to impede mads

Reading last night a few West Ham fans were saying he was nudged into Mads by one of our players. From what I could see it looked like a foul but haven’t seen anything back.

You do what Soucek does to a defender its not given as a foul imo. Mads needs to be stronger in that instance.

I wouldn't be happy if we had a goal disallowed for that.

Keepers are regularly protected I guess .

Like we saw with the Villa Juve game last season .

It’s probably one thing officials consistently give .

The challenge on Mavididi by ?Antonio where it looks like VK is going in to snap him in return but wins the ball with a strong block tackle?

Yeah that one, couldn’t remember who it was on. It fell perfectly for VK to absolutely cream him! lol

I believe Prime stores the full game to be re-watched but I don't have a clip of it, I was worried that VK was going to do something mad at that point lol

He plays the man but it’s pretty soft.

mads should not be missing the punch under that amount of pressure

it’s an on field call. If the ref doesn’t give it then var wouldn’t overturn.

VAR was dreadfully slow throughout the game

Both offside calls could have been determined instantly if the Prem adopt the automatic offsides used at the World Cup. Instead they insist on taking their protractor out to draw lines

Also thought Soumare attempted to play the ball when he got booked. Seemed a bit harsh in the ground but haven't seen it back

He did, but it was straight through their player and he was rightfully booked I'd say.

The PL has voted to bring it in this season, but it's delayed because (for some unknown reason) the tech isn't ready

Because the World Cup system is patented by adidas (chip in ball to identify when struck by player.)

premier league ball is Nike

so I believe system developed where the var will still have to identify when the ball is struck and then cameras in the stadium together with AI will produce a 3D image as per the adidas/champions league system.  It’s NOT going to be nearly as quick as the adidas system. But it will be quicker than drawing the lines.

clearly they are having issues with it cos it’s not considered ready to be wheeled out

To be fair both offsides were ridiculously close. I imagine they had to manually compare several different angles.

Bringing in the semi-automation will be a game changer in that regard
