Haven’t watched MOTD in a long time when you can easily watch highlights of a game seconds after it’s finished on YouTube.

Lineker though has been a superb presenter on it, especially following a class act like Des Lynam.

Also think BBC will be loving it based on what he's earning...

Alex Scott probably licking her lips at the opportunity...

100% it will be Alex Scott. She ticks every box needed. Not the boxes that the audience want to see ticked but certainly the ones the BBC want to see ticked.

Imagine if you will that a white older (over 35) male gets the gig. If best candidate for the job than so be it.  Thank goodness nobody at the BBC has elbowed David Attenborough from the Nature programmes because he is old, middle class and white. I've no problem if someone from another background etc gets the job if they are really the best.

This is exactly what I say and it's true about any job in the world. Doesn't matter if you're male, female, black, white etc, if you're the right person for the job then you get the job, but not because you tick an equality box. Absolutely drives me mad!

Viewing figures will drop, like the football focus figures. She ain't popular as the BBC think.

Jake Humphrey could make a return to BBC, having quit BT two years ago. Not a big fan, but not impossible he'll return.

Last two years two key sports presenters in Sue Barker and Gary Lineker both been given the elbow by the BBC, both in their 60's.

Noticed good old David Dimbleby now aged 86 still does the coverage for Remembrance Day!... probably cause young ones won't do it.

She’s a qualified journalist having done a degree in it after retiring from the game. I’m pushed to imagine how anyone could be more qualified.

Be interesting to know the full criteria the BBC bosses will decide on when choosing the next  presenter. Not a great recent record when you look at the viewing figures alone for programmes like Question of Sport and Football Focus though of course the change of content and format also a factor

Somebody who is actually a well renowned and respected presenter rather than someone the kids might like as they are a blogger etc ?

So apparently Alex Kay-Jelski wants Chappers to job share the role with Kelly Sommers and Chappers has said he won't job share. Good on him if it's true as the BBC are just trying to cover up how woke they are by having a male and female presenter. Just give the job to Chappers and be done but of course he doesn't tick all the required boxes.

That's not what I said is it. My point is that the BBC have gone way too far with the whole equality and diversity thing and often put people into roles that aren't necessarily suitable. Chappers would be the obvious choice for me given that he's been doing motd2. I've no issue at all with a woman hosting motd, so long as they are given the role because they are the best candidate, not to tick a box which the BBC love to do at the moment. As I've said previously, it's the same in every job. Give the job on merit to the right person regardless of their age, sex, ethnicity etc.

Alex Scott just doesn't have any gravitas as a presenter imo, Gabby Logan is more commanding and can orate better between pundits.

Don't mind Alex Scott as a pundit just don't think she's good enough to host.

It should be Chappers.

How do you know they aren't giving it to a women a job because they are the best candidate?  Do you feel the same when a white male gets a job or just when it's a women or a person of colour...genuinely interested.

You make fair points…. But it’s pretty obvious that Mark Chapman is the best candidate to a massive percentage of people.

I never watch it so maybe you're right.  Its just funny how the word woke comes out as soon as a women might have a sniff at a male dominated job.

Personally wouldn’t really bother me who gets it, I’ll still watch it with the lad on a Sunday morning.

I’ve stated in the thread there are plenty of other strong candidates and the majority of them are female that would be really good at the job having seen what they’ve already done fronting other shows.

I do get what some people are saying here though and it’s based on the strength of what people have seen from Mark Chapman, I would say. It would seem to split the job would be for “box ticking” (not keen on that statement myself but for arguments sake) purely because he is by far and away the most natural replacement.

The sad thing is should Alex Scott get the role there would be some people with the stance of “I’m not watching that because she’s presenting it” or “woke BBC” etc.

Of course it is perfectly acceptable to say I think Alex Scott is a rubbish presenter as it is saying Sam Matterface is a rubbish commentator without being accused of sexism etc.

Chappers is the best candidate as he's already shown his credentials on motd2. There are good female pundits/show hosts, nobody is denying that and I'm not at all saying we shouldn't have women on football shows on the tv, but it just feels as though every single game/show etc now, they have to fulfill a quota. My comments aren't just based around the BBC or football/TV, I've seen it for myself in life where recruiters have said "we need more females, or more ethnicity in our workplace" and that's when it's not right. People should be given any job on merit not because of their gender/ethnicity etc.

Only recently The Royal Air Force was found guilty of bias against white males. The scandal came to light when the female whistle-blower Group Captain highlighted the issue. This is rather more important than who fronts a tv footie show
