Saying that "Cooper had the pre season" is like saying give a good manager sunday league players and he'll turn them into champions league material!

No amount of time with our sh!t could make them average.

It seems to me that the cooperouts are so so desperate not to be wrong and admit that lovely Ruud is worse that they will use every excuse in the book and add a few more too.

Under this Rooney v2 we will lose and lose again, we now concede more and score virtually zero, factually much worse than Cooper.

Might be a good defensive coach

he isnt busy …….

But in fairness, Everton have a decent defence…. They just can’t score goals.

Take the 2 Danny Ward games out of the calculation - and that's no longer remotely true.

Ruud conceeds 2 against Palace - "much worse" than Cooper, who, errr, conceeded 2 vs Palace

Ruud conceeds 2 against Villa - Cooper conceeds 2 against Villa

Ruud conceeds 2 against Man City and 3 vs Liverpool - Cooper never had to play against these teams, but did conceed 3 against Man United, 2 vs Chelsea and 4 vs Arsenal.

If we should consider the Danny Ward games - no problem. Lets factor in a comparable fixture to Newcastle away for Cooper in the League Cup the, when he played Ward against Man United away. End result? 5 goals conceded.

Cooper also conceeded 3 goals at home vs Forest, and 2 away to Southampton. The man was a defensive disaster area.

There are enough games left to save ourselves, the question is how, the squad is awful....If we are relegated with 5 games to go or longer can we please just put 2 or 3 academy players in each game and start planning for the future. RVN biggest mistake was playing ward he lost the majority of us there and then and pissed away any momentum from the West Ham win.

Not sure he stays for the Championship. I think he goes by mutual agreement when relegation is confirmed unless we are that bad we press the eject button again first.

Don't confuse my comments as being an approval of Cooper, l didn't want him, but what l did want was an IMPROVEMENT  on him, once again though our brainless rich boy got it WRONG with his decision to appoint an untested, untried, unproven novice when what was actually needed (assuming genius level, messiahs were unavailable) was a proven, experienced man with a track record of managing below average talent such as us.

Cooper for all his faults got some kind of tune out of the crap we call our squad, ugly, lucky Football maybe, but we were NEVER in the bottom 3 under him and frankly we could barely have done worse since his knee jerk dismissal.

Lets be honest we are splitting hairs to compare these two when the real architects of our downfall are neither man but quite clearly our clueless owner and his equally hapless DoF, we are on an RMS Titanic course and inevitably destined to meet our own iceberg under these idiots masquerading as competent individuals.

It doesnt take a Nostrodamus to see where we will likely be in a year or two and frankly mid table championship mediocrity is overwhelmingly the best case scenario, entirely due to appallingly bad leadership and nothing at all to do with Cooper or Van Nistelrooy.

I'll be honest, he wasn't my first choice. However, I still back him. I really want it to click and for him to get us out of this mess and build again next season.

I think the players aren't good enough as a collective. We need Mads, Ndidi and Ricardo back and that will give us a boost. Alas it sounds like that won't happen.

Has anyone found out when Mads is likely to be back? All seems like smoke and mirrors with it.

Interesting comment last night essentially saying the squad is built to play 1 way.

In a way he is correct.

I said on the Martyn Glover thread earlier that last season we had a clear plan in terms of playing style and recruitment. Cooper’s obsession with wanting Premier League experience has sprinkled some shit over the squad and harmed it.

We need to get back to building on what Enzo left behind, Ruud clearly has similar philosophies, and elements of this squad as we saw last season under Enzo are perfect for what Ruud is trying to implement.

But the step from the Championship to Premier League seems to be getting more difficult, there’s also elements of this squad that don’t fit the bill at this level, but instead of filling those holes in the summer, Cooper decided to litter the squad with bench warmers and a pair of wingers who are completely the opposite of Enzo and even Ruud style wingers.

There’s wrongs that need to be rectified, but if we actually stick to a plan like we saw last season, I’m not usually optimistic, but this current mess can definitely be turned around.

Excellent post.

I until last night thought it could be rectified this season but now I'm out of hope.

The club is run by people who have been in post for the long time. There is complacency and an arrogance. They thought we were too good to go down a couple of years ago. And it's the same this season. Took too long to sack Rogers. Then too long to sack cooper when they could have done it during the international break. Then we are half way through the window with only 1 new signing. It's piss poor planning.

nope, your failure to understand it doesn't make it misleading. It's a measure of ongoing performance, it is essentially a quantification of the old adage of "if you keep getting in the right places, the goals will come". Yes, you can stop getting in the right places and then the goals won't come but that's rather besides the point when assessing performances and tactics, no manager is ever saying "guys we need to start creating fewer chances and giving more up"

Me disagreeing with you doesn't mean I lack understanding, patronising dogma doesn't make you definitively correct.

My point is you can stop putting it in the right places as easily as you can stop putting it in the net.

We weren’t in the bottom 3 purely because we had a relatively gentle first 10 games and we had Hermansen saving us time and time again. Wolves had a far more difficult run than us and were below us for this reason. Statistically during Cooper’s period we are where we are now, the 2nd worst team in the league with a terrible XG and awful defensive stats. Irrespective of the fate of RVN, Cooper certainly wasn’t the answer and we are paying the price for his shocking pre season. This includes players signed, players selected for games and the tactics deployed from day one. RVN has been left with a squad very short in key areas because Cooper wanted premier league experience over ability and potential. BDCR, Skipp, Ayew, Edouard all have premier league experience but none of them have been very good. Ayew has been the best of them and the fact that most of us would prefer he was benched tells us how he has done in general play. Our squad is imbalanced and substandard and this is down to Cooper in part but ultimately down to the person who actually thought he’d be a success and allowed the squad to be built in his image. That person is Jon Rudkin and he should’ve walked the same day he sacked Cooper.

Except it isn't at all?

Hey, you've been told off by Samilktray already and told to be nice (you being a NUFC fan) 🤣.

Powerful people throughout the ages have used " divide and rule" to mask their own failure and get the plebs to blame the wrong people and fight each other.

The villains here are rich boy and his useless cronies but they succeed in turning us city fans ( and you toon fans... 😐) against each other.

FTR. I thought Cooper was a mistake, l think RvN is a worse one but sadly not unexpected in either case.
