I thought I'd start a positive thread. Please list/promote any Leicester businesses that are kicking it nationwide (or deserve to)

I'll start with Dunelm stores. For older folk like myself, it's a great place to search for homewares/bed linen/garden tools etc. Plus they appear to have cracked the instore cafeteria with the Pausa cafe.  Doing well up and down the land. Kudos.

Can't beat Dunelm for what they do tbh (perhaps am being a bit biased as family know the founder of them very well, Bill Adderley).

Would much rather go there than somewhere like B&M (am a bit skeptical of 'cheaper'/discounted brands).

Also Baker's Waste services; the founder literally started from nothing and is doing very well.

Also, a shout out to LOROS - who are apparently unfortunately struggling heavily with financial issues.

They are doing great in my adopted home of wycombe also. Kids love the cafe.

My late mum used to say "where there's muck, there's brass".

WRT LOROS, a lot of the smaller local charities are struggling as the cost of living increase means there's less money for people to donate/spend.

When I was volunteering with the Air Ambulance I was astonished to find out the charity made £39 million in the year (whatever it was).

Round Corner, Mount St Bernard’s, Charnwood and Braybrooke are genuinely excellent breweries.

Every time I’m at train station I look out for a Gent’s clock.

Fred Perry polos are made in Leicester. Admiral and Gola were established here.

I’ll write some more up tomorrow.

Not forgetting Pukka Pies..

Had tried Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer's own-versions of them, but found that they break more easily when trying to put them from the oven on the plate in one piece and less tasty.

Pantherella socks (Aylestone), Albert Thurston braces (Frog Island), and Mars Knitwear (Wigston) are all based and produce locally. Origin knitwear I think use Mars to make their stuff.

Paul James knitwear also produce some stuff locally but not all.

Wolsey knitwear (now owned by Matalan iirc) were also founded/based locally but not anymore.

It would be good to merge this with positive stuff in general within the city, like events etc.

All other the other Leicester threads are negative

Gent don't make clocks anymore probably not since the 80/90s. They don't manufacture anything in England either it's all made in Europe.

I'd guess that a lot of the stuff Dunhelm sell is made in China.

I guess they are still bring money into the general economy.
