I don’t believe that you need to be tall to be a good defender. There are lots of other examples of small defenders. But we do need some size in our squad. We often look tiny compared to the opposition, which is fine if you are Barcelona. We are most definitely not Barcelona.

that's just not true though is it, it's fine if your team doesn't have a huge amount of height because height is not a particularly relevant attribute anymore. the days of a winger with chalk on their boots whipping crosses in are long dead. It's fine to be short whether you're Barcelona or Blyth Spartans

Vesty, Coady, Soumare are all north of 6ft. Ndidi is 6ft. Isn't exactly helping us currently.

 

Guéhi is 6ft so only an inch taller than the 5'11 from the proposed new signing. How aggressive and strong he is, how good a leap his got will be more important for aerial defence.
