After being subjected to two years of a CDM in Amartey being shoehorned into the backline under Rodgers, it would be a refreshing change to see a player do the opposite. Faes has the attributes to do that job well.

 

About the only way a lot of fans will be having him as a first team regular going forwards to be honest - most of us have seen enough to know he's not going to show the consistency of focus we need to stay in the league.

So I wasn’t on the match thread so that can’t be levelled at me 

 

But it’s a case of looking at it in a balanced way.

 

A win by a 4 goal margin is great, being in the next round also. Job done.

 

As someone else said, with them playing their ressies, how good were we? Hard to judge really.

 

Scoring 6 at any time is great and worth the entrance fee for those who went. You wouldn’t come away grumbling about only scoring 4 if that was the case anyway.

 

But it’s a shame we still managed to conceded 2. This seems a monkey on our back as it has been said a lot, we need to score minimum of 2 to get anything as is it only 3 games this season where we have conceded less than 2 and one clean sheet? 
 

It’s one of those where even though it’s the same winning margin, a 4-0 win would have almost seemed more positive than 6-2 if that makes sense.

I think we can take three things away from that game that tell us more about the bigger picture.

 

- The gap between the Premier League and Championship is currently enormous.

 

- We are a good attacking side and capable of being great.

 

- The biggest crime was in the summer not signing a centre back, a left back and a right back who were a step up from what we already have.
