That's a ridiculous comment to aim at a player just out of the Academy

Hopefully any would be suitors see it the same way and we can keep him.  I don't think he's shown enough to warrant a big enough fee to cash in on his potential.  We'll see...

I’ll be honest, I don’t get the hype with him? I know that he’s young, but I’ve also seen numerous other young players that can do the business at his age. Very little end product.

Are you actually taking the piss? He is literally just about to turn 17 and is likely to play regularly next season, do you not get how players develop?

oh you’ve seen better players at his age of 16? We’re a championship/league one team. Not Man City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich! Be realistic ffs

When people like you say this then I just have to assume you only turned up to watch us in the 2nd half of the season, or are just choosing to ignore some of his performances in first few months of the season?

Monga is the not the player that you should be going after calling an embarrassment.

You must be mental if you think the second half is the season is the part I chose to tune in for, that was the worst bit🤣

But I think you misunderstood my point slightly. He’s living the dream. He’s playing for his local club where he’s been in the academy for years and he’s getting to play professional football at 16 years old. And he looked so disinterested, I think it’s genuinely heartbreaking because his interests are clearly elsewhere. And that’s the bit that I can’t understand and what’s why I’m critical of him.

If he was then effective on the pitch, I could live with it a bit. But he’s not, he doesn’t look ready for this level. He had some promising performances at the start of the season, but nothing more and they were few are far between.

At the start of the season I expected Ayew, BDCR and soumare to be careless and disinterested, I think we all did. But I didn’t expect it from Monga, and I’d be genuinely very surprised if you argued that you believed he tried his best.

if you had eyes, you would've have seen his flashes of brilliance in the prem and some moments in this actual season.

yes he hasn't played as much as we'd hope this season, but at 16 years old it isn't correct for him physically or mentally to do as such.

is he the next Wayne Rooney? no but he's an excellent prospect for us who has 10 years till his peak!

Think its harsh for people to be slating Monga or any of the youth lads. Aside from the fact they are kids, they have no senior pros to look up to, respect or learn from and no decent coaches to help them fine tune their game. Whilst our academy coaches have done a good job developing the lads through the academy, our senior coaches and players have been dreadful and have not aided any of our youth lads development at all. If Monga had a coach like Maresca to really drill him and start to fine tune his game, we would see a totally different player.

Its sad that we have arguably the most exciting group of academy lads we've ever had and we most likely won't see their full potential here as they will either leave or fail to develop because the club is rotten.

On face value, I totally understand the disinterested/lazy comments but when you actually look a bit deeper, it's pretty clear to see that part of that is because he's known for being very shy/introverted (which holds back his game) and shows in his body language with a very languid running style, plus the fact that his tactical part of the game is not there yet and he switches off a lot.

But on the actual performances, he's barely had a chance and whenever he gets the ball he's doubled up on, or gets absolute hospital passes from his teammates. I know it's not good to chuck in a 16 year old and play them for 90 mins 40 times a season, but when you barely get a sniff and the guy in front of you delivers the worst attacking season you can imagine, it's hardly going to boost your confidence/give you a chance to shine.

Lots to work on and whether he'll be quick enough is fair, but the strength point that's been made is wide of the mark given he looked great with his back to play in the PL, and clearly still has the ability to create something out of nothing.

Such a weird take on here about Monga.

He’s the poster child for academy players over the years - lots of hype, probably hasn’t lived up to it but I will appreciate the fact that he’ll likely be one of our biggest sales.

Will be interested in how his career pans out, genuinely have no idea which way it will go.

Good luck lad when you play for a team that aren’t filled with dossers.

Even if you completely disregard the fact he's only 16, have we not yet learnt how appalling this club is to play for in recent years and how invigorating it is to leave and prosper elsewhere?

Some of that the players have to take responsibility for continuing the shocking environment but its also bigger than them and young academy players are absolved from all major issues at this club that's driving that.

He has immense talent and seems to have a good head on his shoulders with a good family around him so I see no reason for this slating of him. He will go far if things map out for him.

I would agree that Monga hasn't jumped in and looked brilliant as we'd hoped but just because he hasn't hit the ground running at 16 doesn't mean he won't have a great future.

Interesting Ric as I have it on very good authority from friends who work at Seagrave that he has had a serious attitude problem.

A couple of bits I was told were quite alarming for a 16 year old.

He's also not actually played that much really has he, not as if he's played the same amount as Stephy and not done owte

Really I think they’ve tried to manage him a little bit, at 16 years old he can’t be expected to play too much football especially men’s. We know how it goes for players when they play too much too early.

by the time he’s 18 he’ll be physically ready but we’ve got to be patient (if he’s still with us)

It's cope. People knows he's leaving so they're just convincing themselves he's shit anyway. They always do it, they've been saying Fatawu is shit all season despite him putting up incredible numbers for a team as bad as ours.

It's always been like it. The year before Mahrez left, one of the greatest players in our history and a genuinely world class talent, people were pretending he was crap all year and we wouldn't miss him.

This is it.

Unfortunately given our current situation we’ve got bigger problems than nurturing 16 year old lads. Of course he will want to leave, and he is still a child, so I expect him to probably behave a bit like one?

Why would he want to stay here when we’re completely falling apart, when we could probably get a bit of money for him, and he can flourish elsewhere.

He isn’t a problem, nor has he contributed to any of our issues….. regardless of what we think now, he has proven he has massive potential….. it’s yet to be determined if he will fulfil that, but he definitely won here, in this current toxic environment.

They haven't tried to 'manage' him at all. Mavididi has been absolutely pathetic yet he's undroppable and Monga has barely featured, particularly in the back end of the season. That's not good management of a young player. That's simply hindering his growth and the team

Interesting because I have it on good authority that this is not the case at all

He looked amazing for his first few games and we had a mouth watering prospect of seeing him skin full backs for fun… I think the reality in professional team environments is that the defensive responsibilities / shape / structure elements are heavily coached and almost extinguish that raw attacking flair out of the youngster as he’s trying to remember all the instructions to not let the team down.

Add in several changes in manager and therefore message, and two relegation battles and you’ve created the worst possible environment for a young flair player.

The perfect storm, let’s hope he stays and we see what he’s capable of in a functioning elite sporting culture (should we re-find one)
