The club world cup is interesting indeed.  It means that any group of clubs can set up a tournament with massive prizes to artificially create income for the club and give then an edge for the upcoming season.

Oh OK my bad. BUT there are pre season tournaments that could be used in this way, not that anyone has any money to give us.

Pre season tournaments have a lot of times prize money but good luck finding sponsors, have teams playing with their star players or have decent attendance during summer. Club World Cup money come directly from FIFA.

Even if we host a tournament with Bayern, Barca and PSG participating it won't guarantee a decent income for the club.

For this season, I'd be happy with us not making any permanent signings and get a couple of loans in key positions. The youth lads can be used within the squad as well. We need to get out of this cycle of over spending on players that are too old with no resale value (Ayew, coady, BDCR), or just not good enough (Skipp Soumare). Our squad is already quite big and whilst some will be moved on, there are others that we know we won't shift and will just have to use until their contracts run down.

I really don't appreciate how much of my time you wasted working out why you'd left Millwall out and who you'd put in instead....

I’m team chillwell, they don’t deserve a name check

Yep. All this talk of a full clear the decks re-build just ain't happening. Lose the handful we want and bring in one or two freebies and a couple of young loans

Yes but even freebies aren't always what they are cracked up to be. Again we don't want to be taking ageing players on frees as most will want top wages and signing on fees. Obviously if there are decent deals to be done then great but I think the free agent market doesn't look overly tempting at the moment.

It’s drastic when people say we will go down again and that’s just doomsaying. But those saying we will just go up because we have the players we did last time could be in for a rude awakening.

Other clubs like Norwich and QPR who have been mid table are recruiting well and showing ambition, making it likely the top half will be stronger. I think Birmingham are over rated but they will still likely have a strong season.

Our problem is that nobody from owner, to players and even a large number of the fan base care about the club. It’s a recipe for mediocrity if others are showing more fight.

I think this is the year the yoyo is broken also. It will only be broken under this owner by us not going up. We're outsiders this time for a reason. Since this we've proceeded to throw another few months away while other clubs actually try and make a fist of things.

We're continuing to wing it. Clearly the penny still hasn't dropped at the club that we can't keep doing this, or it has and they just have contempt for those who no longer rim the pillock in charge. Neither would surprise me.

Football really is broken if a club this shambolic can get promoted to the Premier League.

I'd disagree a little here. I feel there is a few free transfers that would be pretty sensible signings (if they would come here with sensible wages)

This is without looking at people without 'english experience' and also under 30, who may not want the daft money an Ings, DCL, Wilson would want.

Josh Brownhill
Sergio Reguilón

Tyrhys Dolan

Mason Holgate

Add in an older goalkeeper like the Begovic rumour and we are left with money to spend on a forward.

Without knowing who leaves it's hard to say. Our midfield and wings as it stands are way above the competition. But if we go into the season with Daka up front then we have huge problems.

Holgate is dreadful, also swap Reguilon for Toffolo and you've got a good start to the free transfer game there!

I didn't want to put too many on here, but there's maybe 10 or so that could be worth picking up.

Holgate was an idea for a squad place if we managed to move Coady, Faes and Vesty on (Won't happen though!)

Decent players (Holgate aside) but Brownhill would be the only one who would add something to the squad. As it currently stands we need to shift at least one fullback and we've got far more exciting attacking players than Dolan

There's talk of Ricardo playing in midfield and Kristiansen leaving, so we may need another full back.

The players I put on the list was more to show there are decent enough players, that may be enough for the championship :)

I could of put Tomiyasu, Jovic, KWP, Doucouré, Wilson as a list, but I wanted to be realistic for players we could possibly pick up.

Oh yeah, it's a decent list of championship players. Just making the point that we have much better than all of them/or there is no need for them.

Full back, even with the above scenario (quite likely), we'd still have: JJ, Thomas, Woyo C then Hamza, Aluko, Joseph etc.

We basically need a dynamic centre midfielder and a striker.

Re Kristiansen, now we look like getting Cifuentes who has experience of Scandanavian players, does anyone think he might be able to make a better player out of VK?

Maybe. It's always a possibility. However if there's any chance of getting some pound notes and forego that experiment and let Cifuentes develop the young players with more potential, I'd bin him off.

Can't we dip into the youth squad for covering FBs?

You can as cover, but i dont think Regullion would be here as cover (in theory if he did join, same for toffolo)

Seen enough of VK to know that if there is any possibility we can break even on him - jump at it.
