The two coldest winters since 1963, I think, were  probably1978-79 and 1981-82.    The football fixture list was decimated both seasons.

Stoke away (0-0) in Dec 1978 was a contender for the coldest, darkest, grey-skied day ever.   Not to mention the most amazing defensive performance, literally hanging on to a 0-0 for the entire 90 minutes.

Watford home (1-1) in Dec 1981 was one of the coldest day City have played on.

The temperature got to a maximum of about -8 C during the day.

They removed the balloon covering the pitch at 2pm, and by 3pm the pitch had frozen rock hard.   in 60 minutes!

When I got home at 7pm, the thermometer in my back garden in Leicester read -17 C

I believe a record cold temperature near Shrewsbury was set that night, something like -24 C (.

You can thank global warming for that

Mansfield, FA Cup 2002. Must've been the last cup match at Filbert Street. Bleedin' freezing. Sons first ever match and James Scowcroft became his hero (and Filbert Fox).

And we think things are bad now!

I used to love the Scottish Cup draw back then.

1 Aberdeen

2 Celtic or Kilmarnock

3 Rangers

4 Stranraer, East Fife, Falkirk. Queen of the South, Montrose, Falkirk, Gretna, Elgin, Dunfermline, Dundee United, Berwick or Hibernian.

God knows when the games will be played, before next season’s Cup Winners’ Cup starts would be handy.

Away at Copenhagen.

I didn't have a hotel so slept in the hire car for a few hours. Woke up and it was -6, so cold!

I think it was Feb 83 vs Shrewsbury at home - Only 6,155 I think turned up - we won 3-2 from memory and I think we lost just 1 in something like 15 / 16 to go up over Fulham.

My feet were so cold it was painful.

I remember getting lashed on in 1995 away at Bolton in the league cup. It was just pre Reebok Stadium in their old ground (Burnden Park?) that was all open from recollection.

We were a Division One side and they were PL, and I think it finished 0-0. But the heavens opened all night and we got drenched.

Copenhagen was an absolute disgrace.

I don't recall it being that cold. But I was sat in a different stand with MC Prussian, so maybe not comparable.

Ipswich away, January 1st 1995. Didn't get out of minus figures all game, pitch like a rink, lost 4-1 early McGhee relegation season. Barely a song out of our hungover support.

Went there by bus, could easily have used Huskies and a sled packed with supplies.

2nd this went from Cheltenham and was like a drive to Narnia

Two games spring to mind:

Barnsley away in APRIL 1983. It snowed and I was only wearing my tracksuit top and t-shirt

Portsmouth away in the FA Cup in January 95, gale-force winds combined with a pre-match hail storm.

At Barnsley I was also wearing jeans!

I think we need to spare a thought for the players? We fans can put an extra layer on, hat, gloves, scarf and so on. The players are in shorts and a Jersey.

Oh sure, they could run around to keep warm, but spare a thought for players like Soumare. He must be freezing

Oldham away in the FA Cup.

Youngy bagged a hattrick to knock us out. The next week Jock bought him.

Tipping I'd down with snow and no roof.

Had been postponed 3 times previously due to snow  and freezing conditions.

Have two. Lineker’s debut non New Year’s Day. Feckin’ freezing. Also, a testimonial at Wycombe when O’Neill was here. Alan Parry came on for them and looked the best player on the pitch! The frost was forming on my legs as I watched.

Barnsley away FA Cup on that open terrace in the blizzard, before Joachim scored one of our greatest ever goals, that warmed things up a bit.

One of my favourites that. I remember climbing up the fence so quickly when it hit the net.

Bolton away in the early 90's. Hammered it down. Everyone was throwing potato pies about to keep warm.

I headed the ball back onto the pitch when the ball went over the bar. The crowd sang sign him on! Loved it......but cold!

Forgot the game, but it was a 1-1 home draw in League One in miserable driving winter rain. Wasn't below freezing but bloody well felt like it as it was blowing directly at us in the Family Stand. Luckily there were enough empty seats that those of us who had bothered to turn up were able to huddle at the back in the top rows to keep dry, if not exactly warm. Anyone daft enough to stay below Row M that day probably got hypothermia.

Looking at the results for the season, my head's saying it was Swindon or Stockport. Maybe someone else was there and can remember? According to the stats both had under 20k attendance despite being League games - something I reckon we might just see again in the next few years the way the club's going.

As much as we fondly remember the third-tier season, there were times like that which really drove home that we'd sunk to a new low - half empty stadium, soaking wet, frozen solid, watching us labour to a draw against frankly rubbish opposition.
