What’s the best plan for our squad next season?

  1. 1. Options

    • Keep majority of the current squad and hope they can help get us promoted, then fix things once we're back in the Prem

    • Clear out as many senior players on high wages as possible, sell or release them. Focus on rebuilding and prioritising youth players.

    • Sell a few players, but keep some senior ones for experience. Gradually introduce more playing time for the youth.

Think financially Soumare should be sold, him and Hermansen should cover the needed income and then we can just reset our defence and find a striker, Skipp and Winks will do more than enough of a job next year

Daka is an interesting one, I don’t think many would want him but the fact he only has 1 year left, would mean that he knows he won’t return to his prem wages.  So rather than sitting tight, he might be motivated to leave if we can find a club.

hopefully the relegation wage drop is significant.

This is good but I think some of the players you have as possible sales will be much harder to shift.

I can't see how anyone will pay £8-10m for VK, for example. Or £6m+ for Faes.

The concept of book value really bugs me. Am I missing something? Seems so dumb as an accounting concept.

Yes we'd technically be making a loss on Faes if he was sold for say £4m, but it's £4m more than we'd have if we let him go on a free at the end of his contract.

Can somebody explain to me whether it's possible / allowed for us to 'cut our losses' in that kind of example? Or is it just that clubs avoid this apparent 'loss' for the books? Surely profit and loss should be calculated purely by deducting outgoing costs from income each year?

Just strikes me as another way in which PSR does more harm than good in football club sustainability. Can somebody who knows more than me explain this? Am I over-simplifying it?

Look at the state of those contracts. The likes of Skipp and Mavididi on 4 and 5 years deals.

Am I the only one that thinks Vardy will sign on for another season?

No.i.do also he found the championship easy last time so knows he will bag at least 15 plus don't think he will want to finish his Leicester career on a relegation just depends on his wage demands

Think this aside from Souttar, think it’ll be Coady or Vestegaard who’ll leave

Can I ask who you think will sign Coady and\or Vesty and pay them what they earn at City

Wolves tried for Coady, and I think for a cheap price a European team would take Vestegaard, still a full international who starts every game for Denmark

100%... just remember how we looked against QPR back in January when QPR were broadly mid-table. Of course it was a cup game but surely it's an indicator that we are a heck of a lot stronger than most in the Championship

Exactly, adding a striker will be a priority though.

Erŕrr ... nobody with any financial sense, not cared about value for money, ... and definitely does not know what a decent footballer should look like

After what is the worst season i can remember, I wouldn't be bothered if we had a whole new squad next season plus the young lads. Never happen obviously and we'll be stuck with some shite like Ayew, BDCR and Vestergaard but at least we'll be rid of Ward. I'll

Am I right in saying that Daka and Soumares contracts are up in 2026? If so then we won't be able to loan them out so we either try and sell or they hang around and leave on frees next summer. Shame we can't get a Saudi team to come and take them off us.

Try and hold onto Bilal, sell all other saleable assets, promote the promising young talents, sign young exciting players with potential high ceilings.

The board sit down and properly analyse how to rebuild, the current blueprint need ripping up and starting again, try and build a team capable of challenging in and around of the top 10 with the potential to improve.

As it stands, we will end up going down again, because behind the scenes we’re a shambles and this needs to be addressed before anything is done.

Everyone is available for a fair price. Replace the leavers with hungry players with right attitude. Focus on a core of 22 players and fill out with academy lads

I mean Mavididi made perfect sense. Reasonable top flight player in a big five league (ligue un), low fee. Hasn't really made the step to PL but thats the sort of deal we should be doing

Been told this morning that Rudkin has been telling all the scouts there is not going to be any money to buy players and we will only be signing free agents. If true, that significantly limits our options. It also raises questions about the direction of the club given we will be selling the likes of Mads and bilal and bringing in decent money.

Not sure why option 2 is in the vote.

Even with relegation clauses they will be on way more than teams can afford. No club with ambition will want them.

We can't release any of them unless they want to go as under contract.

Rudkin is probably negotiating with ward as I type this.

Whatever Top does, carry on with Rudkin and Co or replace them. The situation we are in is a 3yr to fix it.

We've had our chance and it's ended in a monumental shit show.

No Quick Fix For Us.

If that is the case even more reason for us to focus on promoting our academy prospects. Got to build the club round players such as Stolrcyrk, Joseph, Nelson, Braybrooke, Cartwright, Alves, Evans, Monga, Hutchinson, Page etc

Yeah i'd happily sell to be fair, I was more thinking along the lines of him not really being our biggest issue at the championship level, he's got a decent attitude and will run for us, but if we got a bid in of 5-8 i'd let him go if we had a replacement lined up!
Same for Vestergaard too, I've put him in starting 11 by mistake actually, was meant to be keep in the squad, but that's solely on the basis that we've given him a stupid contract that we can't terminate and nobody is likely to come in for him. with 2 years left it would be an expensive one to get rid of and at that level we know he can perform. If there is a way to get him off the books with a cost of say £2m though i'd HAPPILY do that.

Didn't Sunderland offer £10m?? Club blocked it, not the player

I believe within the club there is far to much unrest and uncertainty for it to improve until the vast majority of the squad have moved on .... the most important need is a fresh manager with a strong personality and convictions who will be in total control of the entire squad and transfers ... both in and out ... a new DOF who can work well with the new manger ... not act as some dictator like figure ... and as for Top ... its your club ... run it as your father did or sell it
