it’s a perfect opportunity for var to intervene and it doesn’t.  and yet we see it getting involved when there is no need to.

The ball was already spinning away anyway. 

 

Only when they zoomed it in and did ultra slow replay could I tell that it brushed his fingers.

He's scratched the ball into the goal lads. It's most definitely gone in off his hand. 

 

It's not a conscious action so I wouldn't red card but most definitely strange they allowed it. Clear handball, ball goes in off handball, Man U goal @Old Trafford, not especially surprising.
