https://eflanalysis.com/transfers/oxford-resigned-to-losing-cameron-brannagan-as-leicester-city-and-two-championship-rivals-fight-for-his-signature/

Cameron Brannagan wanted by three Championship clubs
According to EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, Brannagan is wanted by Leicester, as well as divisional rivals Sheffield United and Stoke City.

Bailey confirmed that Oxford are “set to lose” their club captain and that relegated Leicester are one of those in contention to sign him.

Sheffield United and Stoke are also said to be in the race for the 29-year-old and a bidding war could begin as a result.

Leicester are facing a possible points deduction but would still be considered one of the favourites for promotion given the fact that they dominated the second tier in the 2023/24 season.

Always liked Brannagan, pretty much a work horse in the midfield but has chipped in with some goals and assist, reckon he could increase that with better players around him. Seems to have been pretty integral to Oxford the past few years, wasn't aware he was 29 though which is my only concern. Id take him though, the kind of character I think we would need in the building if we can get some of the rot out of it!

We've gone from Youri Tielemans to Cameron Brannagan in 5 years.

We've gone from qualifying for Europe to an unknown fate in the Championship. Horses for Courses.

If the cap fit sometimes you just have to wear it.

We need more actual leaders within this squad. That doesn’t necessarily mean older players but losing Vardy leaves us with Ricky, Coady (questionable) then who?

Brannagan does set that, 2 year contract and depth I would be happy with this personally.

You'd think we'd be the best placed club to get him, especially when we offer him £100k a week on a 5 year contract

Exactly. People sitting here saying we should sign experienced pros yet that's the reason we've got Coady, Vestergaard and Winks on a combined £200k a week.

We'll give a run-of-the-mill Championship player a contact that nobody else in the league can afford then watch him leave for a free in 4 years. It's a tale as old as time under Aiyawatt's 'leadership'.

I will be astonished if we sign anyone before we have a manager, given we delegate far too much transfer power to the manager. Rudkin has no idea how to build the squad on his own.

Literally all these rumours are worthless until we know who the manager is. Ruud isn't building a squad for someone else, is he?

We signed Coady before Maresca joined iirc because we needed a 'leader'. Even our dossers should be able to pick up the simpler squad depth players without a manager but that seems beyond them.

Narh Maresca came mid June, Coady signed 1st July.

I live in Oxford, Brannagan is a hero here. Friends who support them have long wondered why he's not been pinched by a bigger club.

Came through the Liverpool academy and has been easily the best player at Oxford for years and years. Club captain and runs the local kids academies during the summers.

We signed Matt Elliott from Oxford at the same age. Different position and football has changed significantly, but still!

Signing a good solid pro that will want to prove he can take his game to the next level.

It’s the profile of player we used to go for and gained us a lot of success in the past.

I don’t mind this link at all.
