Now watched Newsnight and maybe there is an underlying tactic in the sycophantic tone

No doubt there is.  150 billion pounds of investment announced.  That is bound to create some jobs.

I see Jimmy Kimmel has had his show cancelled for making a quip.

Whatever happened to 'free speech' ?!

Seems like some have gone a bit snowflakey...

I'm amazed it lasted this long given the parent company already paid Trump $15M this year.  Free speech was always subject to backlash from the audience, general public.  That public seems to be listening to Trump rather a lot.  Nightmare.

And yet Trump's approval ratings are right now about as low as they've ever been.

Guess it's over to you to do the needful, Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Good job America have got like 5 other guys called Jimmy hosting talk shows to fill the gap

The whole political monolog thing is quite US late night talk show isn't it?  I suppose because it only really works if it is up to date and the UKL doesn't tend to do daily talk shows - at least at night.

In other news Melania Trump is the ultimate cougar, she needs to make an appearance in birds you fancy off the telly thread, instead of Greta Thunberg

With all due respect, all your taste is in your mouth mon ami. :D

Really? She looks like a replicant who has just learned she’s about to be ‘retired’ and isn’t best pleased about it.

Circling back to the witch hunts of the McCarthy era, where people were afraid to say anything remotely political or critical of the government for fear of being blacklisted.

The TV networks in the States are petrified - declining ad spend and viewing figures, with a younger generation that doesn't watch linear TV anymore or very little broadcast TV at all.

Kimmel should set up a a podcast, gives him editorial independence.

Yes they'll continue to do what they like. Both are billionaires, have complete artistic control and own the streaming rights to their shows. So not much Paramount can do.

Free speech only counts when it's the GOP and their cult talking. Pure hypocrisy.

But also, this is obvious and flagrant corruption. ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel because Nexstar, one of their biggest distributors, said that they would not air Jimmy Kimmel. BUT, Nexstar is trying to acquire a rival distributor for $6.2 billion and has petitioned the FCC to repeal it's rule preventing more than 39% ownership stakes in broadcasting markets.

This is obviously a move to get their broadcasting monopoly approved with the FCC after Brendan Carr (chairman) threatened ABC.

Classic good old fashioned corpulent greed enabled by an astonishingly bent US administration.

You have free speech but sort of not while with an employer...well, until someone has a problem with it and money is involved.

By all means talk shite in public in the local roads, parks, outside government offices etc.

Both 'sides' in this as are bad as each other, one demands free speech then disagrees with it when it doesn't suit them. The other says 'free speech doesn't mean free from consequences' then moans like **** when free speech ends up resulting in conseqeuences.
