There's a very simple answer to that the next time they try a stunt like this. Give them the exact same treatment Russia would take if a Nato fighter jet entered Russian airspace.

Either that or respond in kind by sending jets into Russian airspace and see what happens.

No offence but im glad you aren’t anywhere near our military decision makers…or are you

Presume it’s going to be tricky to express views on KS announcement…

This topic has been going for several weeks now without any real controversy or falling/calling out.

So far so good.

Don't forget the Turks, NATO member, downed an Su-24 that flew into their airspace and got eff all retaliation for it.

Come on man the tension then vs now is night and day - also Russian weren’t at war with Ukraine like now, different circumstances.

if NATO or Russia down an aircraft now we have 1 foot in WW3.

You've sort of said the same thing twice here. Or have I missed something?

No, the first quite simply involves downing any Russian jet entering NATO territory without permission. They've breached territorial boundaries so face they should face the consequences. Don't want your jet shot down, don't go enter, simple as.

The second is continue as is however send Nato jets over Russian airspace to test their response. It might be deemed provocative but is no different to what Russia are doing so why not.

It's almost as if we're only human and profiling based on the divides we've artificially produced above all other factors is incredibly counterproductive and actually helps no one beyond the bigots.

And the self-awareness of the situation to know that the choice itself exists and can be made, yes.

Use the brains that three and a half billion years of evolution have granted us, for goodness sake.

I'd rather it didn't happen, but it's been common practise for a long time that if a military aircraft enters your airspace, you down it.

Happens reasonably frequently and several times in the Cold War when tensions were even higher. I'm sceptical it'll be WW3 and need to stop thinking showing bollocks against Russia would escalate this way, it's exactly what they're propoganda has been aimed at doing and we need to drop the Kremlin line.

With regards to security measures, how come the likes of Starmer etc aren't protected by a glass screen when making statements in public - unlike Trump?..

Especially when the UK is facing certain severe issues.

This trump speech is absolutely phenomenal.

Tomorrow will be interesting with the Autism finds/solutions announcement, which could be ground-breaking.

The whole rally is like nothing I've seen before from a country's senior government. Maybe there's been something similar in Russia, I dunno. Keep hoping they find time for Liz Truss to give a speech.

Jeez H Christ

School bully whacks you in the face. You go find him and whack him back.

School bully gets his mates to whack you again. You get your mates to whack them back.

The whole playground then gets involved and takes sides and everybody gets whacked.

Would you mind telling more on your line of reasoning, here? Intrigued.

I know invoking Godwin is rather passe these days, but the parallels with mid to late 1930s Germany is a little bit scary given the power level they have over there makes it everyone's problem.

So what's the alternative, let them do as they please without consequence? Where does it stop?

This approach is exactly what has led us to this point in the first place. If there had been a stronger response to the invasion of Crimea in 2014 we wouldn't even be discussing this. Instead we tried the diplomatic approach and turned a blind eye but simply didn't work. Putin and his cronies only respect force, they have no interest in diplomacy and see it as weakness.

Using your analogy, we now have a situation where the school bully goes around smacking everyone without concern of punishment, and has convinced everyone that his dad who has just been released from prison after a 10 year stint for GBH will come and sort out anyone who grasses him up to the headmaster. At some point someone has to be brave and stand up to the bully.

Anyway, I have my view point on the situation, some will agree, others will disagree, however I'm going to step away from the conversation now. I've got a very busy week ahead and don't have the time to discuss further.

Have a good week all!
