Could have easily been such a different outcome. Luckily the passerby called Police and that the weapons didn't get into the wrong hands.

Eh? And who precisely are "they"? I'm not aware of any credible source suggesting that the Chinese or Russian government are "sub-human scum". Pure hyperbole. Amusingly, that's precisely the rhetoric used by Vladimir Putin to describe anyone who opposed his 'special military operation' in Ukraine or brands it a war or has fled the country due to intimidation. Scum, traitors and enemies of the state.

The Putin regime had long been oppressive, but not totalitarian. In terms of Moscow and Beijing, what qualifies as totalitarian can be debated. The political theorist Hannah Arendt defined it as systematic reliance on terror. The Stalin and Mao eras fitted this definition. It was a place of fear and of purges, or arbitrary large-scale murders and knocks on door at night, with suspects taken away by shadowy state agents, never to be seen again, of prison camps and gulags administered by colossal security bureaucracy. Prior to 2022, Putin had not taken Russia to this point but his wartime state is at least as controlling and restrictive as Leonid Brezhnev's Soviet Union and the regime is moving even further in the direction of the 1930s using methods of coercion. intimidation and state control and neo Soviet regression. The FSB inherited many of its domestic functions of the KGB, and increasingly the spy agency began to resemble the NKVD now exercising far greater control than in the late Soviet era. 

 

Meanwhile, as much as I despise everything that Donald Trump represents, if you think that there isn't "a more disgusting governing body on Earth than that of the United States" I suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Kim dynasty.

One thing I will add to this is while Russia and North Korea are reprehensible, they don't pretend to be paragons of virtue to the entire world through the most sophisticated media onslaught ever devised. The lie of it, the faux-righteousness so betrayed by a closer look at actual actions, is pretty disgusting.

 

China are much more complex than the above two IMO - no ones doubts the degree of state control that the government has there, but also they are clearly focused on the long game in a way that practically no other big player is, and that's important in of itself.

Don't care, why would we. Doesn't change an iota about this repulsive episode in world history, does it. (Wonder how many folks were killed as a result of this "rescue mission.")
