The ratios of arrest and attendee of events is pretty much the same. Around 0.01% to 0.02%

If you use Notting Hill, Glastonbury and say England fans in Amsterdam (2018) when they acted like prats travelling with c10k

Although you have to compare the likely levels of tolerance on cannabis at Notting Hill (70 arrests) compared to Glastonbury and the increased police presence per person.

Yet Notting Hill never gets the vilification and condemnation an England away trip gone wrong gets. To say nothing of the difference in severity of the crimes either.

Generally speaking it’s a handful of louts being D&D at an away game. Not stabbing someone

Went to Devon for the bank holiday. Saw a lot of flags, including a Trump one FFS. Some oddball had parked his white van adorned with Union Flags and the slogan "Starmer and his cronies out" at the side of the A303.

Pretty weird hobby IMO.

Was the number plate N16 ELF?

Yep.

Patriotism, or nationalism.

Those putting the flags up in the name of the former need to acknowledge there will be plenty of those doing it in the name of the latter, too.

The flags will die down when the villages start saying it's uncouth and it's running our house prices down

Somehow I don't think it will.

I'm so happy we're now painting roundabouts and putting are flags up everywhere. Makes me feel so much better about the unrelenting shithole the Tories and Brexit turned this country into.

And Labour

Equally those that pigeon hole anyone that does it as doing it as the latter need to acknowledge there will be plenty doing it in the name of the former.

It’s something that triggers me on the forum and probably should go in another thread but I hate the premise of everyone must be all in or all out on all the sensitive subjects discussed within the myriad of threads we have.

It’s ok to have concerns, objections & views that don’t push you fully 1 way or the other & the forum would be richer for it.

How many posters has the forum lost, be it permanently or via restricted inputs due to a majority rule approach, there’s nothing more boring than just seeing posters beaten into submission on a topic that could have variable viewpoints.

I’m sorry but how have Labour not played a part in what you say the country now is?

Don’t worry your posts will get plenty of support on this left wing echo chamber though 👍🏼

There are plenty of more conservative posters here, it's hardly an echo chamber. Probably like 60/40 lefties at a guess. Just that it's easier for left wingers / liberals as they have more specific policy to point to e g. Brexit. And a lot of more right wing posters come across as a bit loony and preoccupied with fighting the liberal elite in their head, like the points above about how football fans are criticized more than the carnival which is is obviously very silly on a number of levels.

Agreed - there’s definitely issues that deserve a talking shop and discussion rather than absolutism. This flag matter is far too complicated in terms of all the elements to be reduced to one way or the other.

Of course, however, there are also topics where one would really expect (or even demand) unity of thought, both on here and out in the wider world.

If this really was such an echo chamber, my single issue "one world or no world" spiel would be getting more likes/ agreement.

But in all seriousness, for what its worth as a single issue, the poll of a few hundred folks on here on the climate thread pretty much matches the national polling I've looked at on the topic nearly exactly.

I'd argue 40 left, 40 right, with 20% in the middle being called right by the left and left by the right.

Like a lot of these things, the summer comes etc, the flags get tatty, the roundabouts ended up getting cleaned down. A portion of the nation only get active when its the summer (look at our history of modern riots). The noise will be there but recent history tells us less will be on the streets.

People rarely riot in a foot of snow.

Not that we get that anymore.

Don't worry, plenty of tropical style torrential rain to replace it

Think the banhammer came down there.

Perhaps idolising Enoch Powells approach to race relations was a bit much.

Id say it’s 80/20 on this particular thread but I don’t mind, I enjoy coming on here.

It takes longer than a year to turn around a sinking country after 14 years of destruction, especially when the Tories salted the earth before they went, and when there's global chaos caused by a fascist in the Oval Office. Not to mention the generational damage Brexit is doing. Despite all that, and despite the headlines, they're actually making decent progress.
