I suppose it’s what you mean by left if you’re grouping left and liberals together. As I was always taught liberals were centrists.

I was always taught in politics class in school that socialists were left, social democrats were centre-left, liberals were centrists, conservatives were centre-right and reactionary conservatives were right.

Not trying to cause an argument just interested in the theory behind the thing that people are using as their left:right ratios.

No. It’s not worth it.

Id say it’s 80/20 on this particular thread but I don’t mind, I enjoy coming on here.

If it's not worth it, you are also slightly aware it's probably not a great thing to say

The Overton Window adds additional complications to this.

For instance, what people would consider a liberal/conservative in Oslo and in Alabama differs wildly.

I see where you’re coming from but I disagree

WRT recent discussion, this applies to political compassing, too.

the plan, people would be arrested on arrival, detained at disused RAF bases and, if agreements were reached, returned to their countries of origin, including Afghanistan and Eritrea, where a significant number of people on small boats come from.

The party says it would build removal centres in remote areas of the country under plans to detain up to 24,000 people within 18 months.

The party would also look to countries such as Rwanda and Albania to house migrants, and seek to use British overseas territories such as Ascension Island as a "fallback" if people awaiting deportation could not be sent elsewhere.

The Reform UK plan for illegal immigration.

It’s pretty much a bit of plan Tory which failed and a bit of plan Labour.

So we'd start funding the Taliban. Brilliant stuff.

I'd be interested to see what would be built in to stop these governments agreeing to these deals, getting the returned migrants, getting the money for taking them and then magically 'losing them' as they cross borders and try again (assuming people would try it again anyway). Same people cross, detained, returned, money deposited, released, cross, detained, returned, money deposited etc etc?

Or would the deal mean these people are indefinitely detained in their home country?

Did Reform miss the protests outside of Scampton (their heartland) when the idea was proposed to place asylum seekers there?

Although it’s an issue, it’s insane to see how much air time the asylum seeker issue gets compared to how much of an issue it is to wayyyy more consequential stuff around housing, economics and defence.

Just read this.

They'd also potentially get £2.5k to send them on their way. Have I read that right?!

Not sure it's a fully workable plan and can't see it getting through.

Which is ironic given the topic about RAF airbases as one of Labour’s medium to long term plans is to revitalise the existing housing stock on those sites to create more and better housing.
