i recall a Q&A in the match day programme where Steve Walsh was asked what frightened him. His answer was “ guns and Ali Mauchlen”

We didn't lack battlers back in those days. Ali Mauchlen, as you mention, Paul Ramsey and later on Steve Walsh...  but the most frightening player was Mick Kennedy. Did we ever find out why he only played nine times for Leicester before being shipped out?
