He has shown more than enough to stay in the side for a while and he's worth investing in above the obvious. But he needs to sign a new deal soon for us to prolong with him.

 

Having said that you can't just ignore when he does things that you'd kill Vestegaard for. There are users who will make 4 new pages for the mistake he did yesterday if it was Vestegaard. You can't have it both ways.

No there isn't. This is such a myth. I said this in the match thread but if you actually look at Vestergaard's thread, there's been multiple games where he dropped clangers and nothing has been said in there. Even that first goal is more his fault that Nelson's (still should have done better) as he actually stepped away from the ball, though should have been stopped at source. He gets a free pass from a massive amount of people on here. He's been absolutely crap on the whole this year (a few goals and good performances don't detract from that) and unlike Faes, he's actually capable of better. End of the day, he's been the ever present in our poor defence so he should be dropped. Nelson coming in has certainly helped him. 

 

For what it's worth, even as a massive Nelson fan, I think people have been overboard about some of his performances. Though the reality is he's still been a massive upgrade on all the others in his position. He shouldn't be immune to criticism but he should absolutely get more leeway than the older players. Got lots of potential, will make mistakes at his age and grow from them and he's not on a massive wedge. It's not about double standards, it's just about applying a bit of context.

He's played 7 games this season. He was poor yesterday and he was dreadful against Huddersfield. He hasn't really stood out in many of the other games. I think the biggest problem he's got on Foxestalk is the Ben Nelson fan club. You can't even fairly criticise him on here without getting jumped on by a number of posters.

 

Any young player is going to struggle in this defence. It has no protection, his more experienced defenders can't really help him cause they're bad defenders and he we have a young keeper. I hope he succeeds and we should keep playing him. He'd really be helped by Soutter coming back.  

 

People have been saying he's a future England international and a future £40-50 million pound defender who would sort this defence out. Maybe he is, but he doesn't really look like it atm. That isn't his fault.

 

If people fairly point out he's had a bad game. A bunch of people come on here playing the outraged youth player excuse. Whilst some of the same people slag Silko Thomas off. Go on his thread yesterday, he's still getting slagged off after scoring.

 

We just all need to chill. If he has a bad game, it's okay to say it. He's a young player in a sh*t defensive unit, he's going to struggle. We all need to manage expectations.

He had a bad game, it happens. He does not get a pass because he was an academy player.

And just because someone was crap  too, or was even more crap in the past does not alleviate blame for one game.

Not judging him harsh, everybody should have the same level of judgment.

I can’t say for definite as it would be impossible to go and look but there’s definitely a percentage of people on here who get excited when there’s a chance to criticise these kids (I realise Nelson isn’t a kid but feels like it to me..) 

 

The reaction to Aluko getting sent off was utterly embarrassing. Grown men going crazy and giddy because they can go I TOLD YOU SO!!! THE 18 YEAR OLD IS SHIT!!! 
 

Nelson was by all accounts poor yesterday or just at fault for a goal i don’t know. I couldn’t watch. 
 

Of course fans who like seeing Academy players involved are biased and less likely to criticise, but if I’m totally honest after the last few years of “senior pros” putting disgraceful performances in every week I don’t mind Nelson, Aluko, Page and even Silko Thomas looking shaky. If it means we’re actually building towards something.
 

I think people forget we’ll still be a Championship side next season & potentially not much money to spend. We will need these kids. It’s not like we’ll be expecting them to jump up to the Prem. 
 

You even get accounts taking snide shots at Alves & Braybrooke ffs.

Middlesborough MOTM, Ipswich, Derby, Norwich before he went off he looked decent. Blokes destined to be a Premier league player. ‘He’s not all that’ because hes had a bad game, hes a young lad who hasnt played a lot of games so hes going to make mistakes. Certainly doesnt warrant writing someone off as average

He looks the part but in the few games I have seen him play he chucks in a couple of bomb scare moments. Sometimes you get away with them and sometimes you don’t but he’ll need to cut them out if he is to progress. 

 

Worth persevering with at the moment but the jury’s out for me in coming to a firm view about his potential.
