Parker was also great for us.

Two very talented players.

Parker might be the best striker of a dead ball we've ever had. Was one of the best in England at the time.

Lennon splits opinion for obvious reasons but is a Leicester legend for what he achieved and for how good he was. Was the engine of that team.

There's a recency bias from my perspective, I'm sure of it.

Yeah maybe. Like obviously Evans is a top defender and there may be arguments to say he was better than Elliott. But to say he was “far more complete” than Elliott is just untrue. Matt Elliott was honestly the best defender I’ve seen play for us (I was born in 1981 for reference). He was a big ugly brute and we were a very good yet scruffy and unfashionable team who probably punched above their weight due to great management and a siege mentality. Certainly many of our players were journeymen. But Izzet and Elliott were (in my opinion) as good as any players we’ve ever had in my lifetime (bar Kante, Mahrez and Vardy).  As I say, he was kind of a big ugly brute in terms of stature but, not only was he an amazing, no nonsense defender, on the ball he was phenomenal. I haven’t seen us in person for a long time (I live in Scotland) but I lived in Leicester during some of Elliott’s time with us and I genuinely think he’s the best defender we’ve ever had. Also, as someone else pointed out, he scored seven league goals in a premier league season. Insane.

Yeah Elliott was great. You couldn't design a better centre half. Really elevated us from a surprise package when we first got promoted to a top half premier League team, one that probably could've been top 6 with a deeper squad

Flowers was quite comfortably better than Kasper imo, although obviously the latter has more legendary status.

Na. Flowers was quality but Kasper is criminally underrated by some. Remember having a debate with somebody on here who claimed that he made loads of errors leading to goals, yet he had the lowest out of any keeper in the whole time he played in the PL. Less overall than Alisson had in a single season! Even his playing out from the back was blown out of proportion. People forget how good his long range passing was and the fact that he played in Danish youth set ups as an outfield player until his mid teens.

I always maintain that we were maybe 1 player away from having a fight good go at CL places back then, when we had those few weeks of Heskey and Collymore. Plenty of teams with more talented players but the functionality of that team, with how players complimented each other, plus still some very talented players, made it excellent.

So probably the difference is much less than I made out in my post but I think Flowers was really underrated. I think he might have been the best shot stopper England had in that era but Seaman was perhaps more consistent and was elevated by the back four he played with. But when Flowers was on it he was almost superhuman. Banzai goalkeeping.

Subs:-

Macalister

Tielemans

Madison

A.Smith

Heskey

Then there’s Morgan, Collymore, Mancini, Fuchs, MacDonald, Barnes, Peter Weir, Fatawu, Draper, Sergio Hellings

3 at the back in order to fit in my midfield choices, with the Kante twins shielding it’ll do!. Having Mahrez and Cunningham on the wing makes it a footballing Harlem Globe Trotters and whilst the Vardy / Lineker partnership may not be the best balance I find it hard to look past them and imagine that combined pace.

Are we counting players who were underwhelming for us but went on to be world-beaters? Because if that's the case, I guess you can make a case for Kane and Lookman.

Going in the other direction, there was Nobby Solano who was absolute mustard in his Newcastle days but past it by Pearson's second season.

1. Ward

Very underrated. Think of where the club was before he became No 1 - hadn't been in the too flight for years, but he was one of the missing pieces of the puzzle for that '93-'94 campaign when we finally reached the promised land.

Hard done by to only get 6 appearances in our first ever Premier League season, but glad someone else recognises his talent.
