Celtic obviously have by far the best squad in the league and just needed any old coach with decent man management who could wind them up and essentially just let them get on with playing. Our lot need considerable coaching and MON is very behind the times. He's took Maloney and Fotheringham into Celtic with him to do his coaching for him.

Surely no one says he is boring?! Really is not a word you can put with him. 2
justfoxes Posted 1 December 2025 Posted 1 December 2025 ATM id take OGS he’d probably bring in a bit of a different type of football no tippy tappy losing the ball in our own box gift wrapping goals To the opposition?
Product of 84 Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 Why I want the club to go all out to get Martin O'Neill. 1. He has Championship, Premiership, International and European experience. 2. He calls a spade a spade. If things are bad behind the scenes he will tell us. 3. It will united the fan base. This will give him the time needed to turn it around. 4. Our players will respect him. If they don't they are fools and should be finished as players here. 5. If O'Neill fails it won't be as easy to blame him the manager. 4
CloudFox Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 I honestly don't think I care about "who" any more. I just want to see a high press. With the players we have, it's such a no-brainer. Baffling that we seem allergic to it. Frustrating that Cifuentes seemed to suggest he preferred a high press, and has failed to implement one.
l444ry Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 Martin O'Neill would instil the mentality, work rate and game management skills that are so sadly missing in this squad. Anyone suggesting that him (and Dyche) are Dinosaurs need to pack their Football Manager computer games away. Too many Pound Shop Pep' Coaches have gone a long way to brainwashing 'modern' supporters into thinking these things don't matter, that tactics are everything. Cifuentis is just another one of them. 4
Muzzy_no7 Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 OK those STILL shouting for O’Neil. Who are the coaches he’s going to bring in with him?
teblin Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 I think the only person to get anything out of these players would be a motivator rather than a tactician. Keep it simple in terms of formations and tactics, and pick the motivated receptive players. Marti doesn't seem to be that guy. Seems a nice one, but maybe thats not we need.

Lesta Legend Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 If only an interim fine go for him. But the club need to be acting now to get the new DOF as it should be this person making the decision on the manager and signing the players. But yet again the club who apparently have been planning this for a while will slowly dither on making a decision, no doubt getting it wrong eventually anyway. All while we need strong leadership and all while we sleep walk into possible relegation.
Groby_Blue Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 MON until the end of the season and then move him upstairs to the DOF or whatever we're calling it role.

Muzzy_no7 Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 What gives people the impression that MON would make an OK DOF or technical director?

People just seem to think that managers make good DOFs when actually they're totally different things. To answer your earlier question he's took Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham in to Celtic as younger coaches to do the training ground work for him. Either he'd want to continue with them or follow a similar route with the younger ex player of the club that's into his coaching to do that part of the job for MON. I see he's worked with Steve Guppy for Ireland who is a coach these days so I would imagine he'd be a candidate given the connection. Edited 2 December 2025 by Aleksz

During times of trouble, some fans respond by nostalgically wishing for previously popular club figures to return like Aslan and save us from our present woes. It's understandable given how grim things are at the moment, but usually it's just idle fantasy with no real basis in reality. That said, MoN as DoF, with Pearson as manager, Izzet and Lennon as first team coaches, and Matty Elliott as kit man will do for me

Leicesterpool Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 MON is more of a laid back manager, he apparently likes to reward loyalty to players. I was listening to Petrov's interview who sums Mon up best. Basically he's not a coach, you may not see him on the training ground much. If the team plays well they get days off. He will allow players to live anywhere in the country. He will promise a new contract if you hit certain targets. If you hand a transfer request in, he takes that as insult and you could find yourself in the reserves and having to apologise to get back in the first team. Faults he doesn't like big squads and known to not rotate enough.
Quorndon_Fox Posted 2 December 2025 Posted 2 December 2025 MoN was pretty much a DoF before DoF's were a thing. The bloke worked tirelessly to find raw talent, build a culture and winning mentality around the club and most importantly protect the players from the boardroom. Tops 'personal' relationship with players undermines anyone in the chain between him and them, we need a figure head tto run everything football who is well respected and who the fans trust. MoN is that man, taking over until the end of the season wouldn't be the worst idea to allow him to see what needs to be fixed. 1
