Time to go full in on Southampton rejects, go get Matt Crocker who was the Director of Football at Southampton at that time as well

To be fair if we genuinely are after that head of youth at Southampton then we will be bringing in Martin as they're best mates.

Would we have considered the apointments made by other Championship clubs recently?

Middlesboro.... Kim Hellberg

Norwich............Philippe Clement

WBA..................Eric Ramsay

Clubs that seem to have more vision and knowledge than us. Certainly not the likes of Mowbray or Rowatt!

Lee Carlsey anyone? Previously linked. Plays an exciting style of football.

England U21s manager, I wouldnt be against him having joint jobs. Could help us attract U21 players on loan to possible purchases. Go back to our old model what actually worked. If we could get it right with our youth coming through, the odd loan and experience then why not.

My number one choice, but I doubt he's on any of JR's lists....

Gary Rowett would come with his long time trusted assistant Mark Sale.

He’s also big mates with Callum Davidson and Rory Delap and worked with both before.

Sale, Davidson and Delap are all currently out of work too.

Hes also worked with Kevin Phillips before having hired him at Stoke.

Kevin Poole usually also his GK coach but he’s getting old now. Stowell would probably come back as he currently commutes to Plymouth.

I know Matt from working with him previously. He’s a really nice guy. Maybe too nice? Can’t shift this feeling that we need a taskmaster, and I’m not sure that’s him.

What about Carrick once/if Man Utd replace him ?

We missed the Carrick boat, not a chance he will come here.

Given recent experience - they won't even have a shortlist yet and we will get someone totally unexpected.

I am putting my money on the return of Dean Smith and John Terry!

Why do people think King is the answer to our problems. He is part of the problem since he came back here as a coach.

Why is the assistant manager not in interim charge?

I hate this, he is part of the problem. How do you know that? Hes just a coach, he is doing what's told of him by his manager, he doesn't pick the team, he probably isn't giving the players instructions or pre or half time team talks. Its just a lazy throw away comment.

Yes hes been here under Ruud and Marti but hes a young coach learning his trade. You cant blame him for anything that's happened, especially when you have no knowledge on what happens behind the scenes.

At this point I'd take him. I'd imagine he has a pretty extensive knowledge of the best youth players in the country that are not quite breaking into the U21's but have huge potential, would also give us a bit more of a pull for some of the U21 players who are fringe at their clubs and need game time.

Michael Skubala’s style of play focuses on a modern, possession-based approach rooted in his extensive futsal background, emphasizing intelligent spacing, structural fluidity, and intense, calculated pressing

You had me until you said intelligent, it won't work with these players.

It"ll be Gareth Southgate.

Reckon he'll just wait for the Palace job in the summer.

Saying that, they seem to be on the same post-winning FA Cup curse that has riddled us, Wigan and Portsmouth. Could be heading for the Championship...

Hassenhuttl is a shout. Although he did most recently do pretty terribly with Wolfsburg.

Did he?
He finished mid table with them and that is where they are now.
Not saying he did a brilliant job there but I wouldn’t say it was terrible.

He didn’t do terrible at Wolfsburg.

Theyre a basket case of a club and he kept them stable.

They got rid of him and the next guy did worse.

Feels pretty clear Top came here to back him then sat through the match and experienced the performance and fan sentiment first hand and changed his mind. Hence the mixed interview messages. With that in mind, and how painfully slow we are recruiting (see DoF/CEO timelines) we won’t even have a shortlist. Not that I think it’s the right thing to do, but reckon King (plus maybe a bit of support) could be here longer than expected through sheer board incompetency.

Mea Culpa. Probably not a terrible job, but the run that got him the sack was rough.

Some of the options being suggested in here are making me want to take a 2-3 year break from footy

My only solace is that people were equally underwhelmed with Martin O'Neill and Claudio Ranieri! Compared to how highly rated the likes of Peter Taylor and Ian Holloway were when we appointed them.

In truth you never quite know how a manager is going to fit in - and a lot seems to be down to luck.

(I still really don't want Russell Martin, though!)
