Sunderland’s situation isn’t a fraction of we have going on here.

No club has ever entered league one with the obscene overheads we have. The amount of work we would need to do to reduce those overheads isn’t possible…. We’re still financially operating like a top half premier league club…. Our situation financially is completely unique, we’ve likely breached FFP again, and we will automatically breach next season on league one.

There’s no recovery from relegation, we will end up in administration.

Why is it not possible? Players can be sold and released, facilities and land can be sold off too.

We’re in a unique never been seen before position where a top half successful premiership club has fallen so far so quickly. Our potential double relegation (our 3rd) in 4 seasons has left us in a perilous position.

Leeds????

I don't often agree with you!

But this is why I can't get on board with the 'if relegation is what it takes to get rid.of King Power then I hope we go down' point of view.

Firstly, Top can't (and has said publicly that he won't) sell if we go down because we won't have anything like the value that he needs to recoup.

Secondly, if we get relegated we will be so comprehensively insolvent that we will undoubtedly go out of business.

This isn't even close to the last time we went down there. The 'reset' would be existential.

What did Leeds win before they dropped to League 1?

The quoted post was "top half successful PL club.." They didn't win anything but they dropped from 5th in the PL to league one within 5 years.. they'd finished in the top 5 of the PL 4 seasons in a row before that and had a CL semi too..

It was still some drop from them.. I'm not saying it makes our situation any less of a catastrophic balls up..

Tbf Leeds is the closest comparison. But they didn't fall asleep far as fast as us imo. And we're not done yet.

League one will be a disaster for the club and as many have said some do not realise the tightrope we are walking .... League 1 will be no walk in the park .. if it does happen... Top, the board and king power... hang your heads in shame ... this is of your making

Who in our squad are we getting a large fee for?? Monga perhaps? Nowhere near enough to cover the issues we have. As for facilities, the training ground is owned by King Power I believe, not the club? Nobody would buy it regardless, it’s a white elephant with insane running costs. It will need to be completely abandoned and left to rot.

They did win the top flight in 1992 TBF :D

I think they were in League One 15 years after winning the top division and 5 years after being in a Champion's League semi final.

If we go down this season they're probably the most similar story historically.

Will they have another JJ playing for them next season?

The training ground gets sold to King Power Holdings and all running cost are covered by tha company.

Leicester City Football Club then rent this for a monthly fee.

This is how other clubs have played the game.

No doubt we will as well.

The same players we’ve been struggling to sell off for the best part of 4 years? All of sudden we will? And if we do, it will be on the cheap, so we will be getting reduced fees for them. We can’t just release players under contract, unless they mutually agree to terminate their contracts without receiving a payout……

Selling off land again won’t really help, selling Belvoir Drive will be small fry…. We would likely have to sell off assets anyway just to function, but it’s also highly likely we will enter a transfer embargo, where all we can do is sell and not sign, until they’ve reduced the wage bill significantly, and then that will leave us with a Squad of academy players.

It was said recently the club loses £40m as a standard before a season starts on just the every day running of the club… the sheer financial drop would be like nothing ever seen before in English football….. if clubs like Derby nearly went bust, what chance do we have? When our natural wastage likely surpasses the value of their club?

Sell for how much ?

The latest accounts suggest that the value is around £100 m. Let’s say KP offered that sum . Firstly none of that income will be allowed for PL FFP or indeed the EFLs version. Chelsea got away with selling assets because it wasn’t against the PL  rules as did Derby because it wasn’t against EFL rules. Both set of rules have now been amended so no it can’t be used to give a FFP boost . The sale would have to be for the sum shown in the accounts otherwise and difference would likely be adding to the losses.

Then you have to look at the rental agreement. In that aspect it would have to be fair value so as a minimum imagine it would have to be close if not more than running costs and I would imagine that a sum would have to be included in the fair value calculations to factor in interest on the capital KP had to put forward to build  Seagrave  in the first place and all that is before you have to somehow deal with the circa £100 million loaned to build the dam place.

A lot of the allowances for the squad changes would come down to ability to keep paying all the bills/debts/wages constantly until completed. You would have a free hand as usual whilst solvent, but miss any payments/administration and the noose tightens very quickly.

Other than Monga and Fatawu who could go to the Prem as a development player there's not really anyone else of interest that would raise a decent fee, especially if you end up in League One. No other player has stood out at all. You could end up paying out to get rid of a few but hopefully don't have to go down the Sheffield Wednesday route. You might even get a decent offer where Fatawu gets to stay on loan for a full season.

Do you believe the accounts? Have loans already been made against the land?

Rent for the cost of upkeep? You could have a few players for that amount. It's become a noose around your clubs neck.

Can we all agree that this club never builds anything new please. Last time it was the stadium this time its the training ground.  It's like we have bad omen when we build anything in this club

Why wouldn’t I believe the accounts ? The only issue is they are some 20 months out of date.

As  for loans we know that KP advanced circa £94 m to fund the build we have no idea what is registered at the land registry

Basically if we go down we are going to probably go bust. Administration then maybe someone buys us out but it’s a gamble.

we probably should park the negative atmosphere for the rest of this season, try and get behind the team and see if that can get them playing and keep us up, then re assess the situation in the summer.

Saturday’s fixtures:

Blackburn at home to Middlesbrough

West Brom away at Bristol City

Portsmouth away at QPR

Oxford away at Southampton

We can potentially go five points adrift.

Or end the day at the top of that mini league of five. Saturday felt like a pivotal moment but it's so tight down there it could turn around very quickly.

However looking at those fixtures, we could also grab an opportunity to gain points over some or most as all tricky fixtures

It's very likely that Portsmouth and West Brom will pick up points in those games, though.

We’ll have to surely. That and Airbnb some of the rooms and access to the pool/spa facilities. **** it, turn it into a grim council style leisure centre. Get Thomas and Choudhury on lifeguard duty plucking turds out the pool.
