It's a bit embarrassing for fans to claim the world is against us but it's a disgrace for senior LCFC officials to take that stance.

 

Signing Soumare, Vestergaard, Coady, Bertrand, Winks, Faes, Skipp et al is not ambition. It is downright laziness. None of those players were highly sought after yet we paid millions in wages for these bums.

That headline absolutely hits the nail on the head. If we were in this position because we'd tried to be really ambitious, the finger would still be pointed but I think there would be far more acceptance towards the running of the club as it was a calculated risk.

 

I say this all the time but the reality is, there is not a single player (maybe Tielemans) where you can say that we probably had to stretch ourselves to bring to the club, and we operated with a pretty modest bet spend for all but 1 season. On top of that, the inability to capitalise on the PL win, establishment as the best of the rest etc. from a commercial perspective is absolute negligence. Our commercial income was pathetic when we were in the PL.

What is astounding to me is that the sheer number of players that we have signed that have either been crap, unused, gone of a free, or all of the above is absolutely indefensible. I can accept a director of football and recruitment team getting a few things wrong but mistake after mistake and the same people are making the bad decisions. Its too costly to ignore and will lead to ruin. The signings in this window again show no clear strategy. How can we expect the manager or players to adapt an identity if those at the top aren't clear on it either.

Soumare had a great breakout season in France and Faes had a decent run before we signed him so they are harsh shouts.

Daka may be our worst ever player, and I know you didn't name him, but in fairness he was highly sought after too.

Giving Soumare £80k a week when he was on around £12k a week when he's not proven at all in the league was absolutely awful management.

 

Signing young players from abroad is always a risk, and I don't mind it. Giving them 80 bags a week before they've proven themselves is absolutely awful management though.

 

Had we put them on a reasonable starting salary that grew as they hit targets, then once we found out they were not fit for purpose then they are much easier to shift. As it was, I imagine prospective clubs laughed at us when their representatives told them what they were being paid.

The mistake wasn’t necessarily signing them as all had reasonable reputations however where we went massively wrong was offering ridiculous wages that has meant it has been impossible to move these players on for any kind of acceptable fee. 
 

Daka was allegedly on £7k a week at Salzburg and we offered him £70k, realistically we could have offered him £21-28k and he would have probably accepted. Likewise Soumare ended up on £80k trouble is clubs will look to low ball us on transfer fee to mitigate the high wages and/or expect us to pay a hefty % of the wage which makes it nigh on impossible to get shut of them without taking a big PSR hit so we end up stuck with them until they leave in final year for very small fee or go for free. 
 

We have massively hamstrung ourselves by paying extortionate wages, leaving no room for manoeuvre when a signing doesn’t work out.

This must be a call to arms to oust Rudkin . His position has to be untenable. The trust must purpt real pressure on the club for accountability and action must be taken. The club have not learnt any lessons from previous mistakes and will continue to make one bad decision after another. Heads must roll and immediately

I said on here the other day, Top looked into the abyss and stepped forward. He is the chairman and he either shoulders the blame and sells the club or accepts that Rudkin is to blame and sacks him. He cannot sit there and do neither.

Reims fans were warning us that Faes wasn't PL standard, accurately detailing his flaws that we came to know all too well

Decent scouting should have thrown up his many red flags and a decent head of recruitment would have added him to their discard list

The Soumare point is moot. He wasn't starting for that Lille league winning side in the second half of the season and some of his stats were horrific playing out to form.

Soumare went from peanuts to a 6 year contract on 80 grand a week. No competition for his signature.

 

Faes and his Mrs bawled their eyes out because they couldn't believe the contract they'd been given. No competition for his signature.

 

Daka wasn't listed because as you say there was genuine interest in him and if we didn't pay him that much then someone else would have. I think you win some and lose some for players at that level. I disagree with "worst ever player" shouts though

You have to ask would this have happened if Vichai was still alive?

 

Top, unfortunately, does not have his father's vison and the football club seems to be of secondary importance.

 

He is surrounded by incompetents who instead of being helpful have been the exact opposite.

 

The 6 point deduction could have been worse but our survival in the Championship is achievable.

 

Regrettably the footballing authorities don't treat ALL clubs the same.
