Feels like the right appointment for what we need now (well, 3 weeks ago). Can't see it having a shelf life beyond 18 months, but think both us and Rowett could get a decent 18 months together before parting ways.

Goal is to survive this season and stabilise next I think. Don't think we can have any ambitions beyond that right now.

you're wrong, we promote next season.

So, are we all going to be singing "Super Gary Rowett" to the tune of "I predict a Riot" or is that just me?

Definitely don’t want to hear that god awful Leeds tune anytime soon so I’m hoping it’s just you.

Of the realistic candidates, who would you have chosen instead?

I don't know it might genuinely be the best we could have hoped for at the moment I just don't see it going well.

Probably would have gone for an up and coming successful league 1 manager maybe but thats a huge risk at this point

Has he dropped Ayew yet?

The true litmus test will be if he drops Luke Thomas. If Luke starts Rowatt’s first game then we’ll know he’s done zero research and we are doomed.

Oh I don’t, not really, but by any reasonable assessment they are playing below their collective ability, and the club and manager have to take some responsibility.

It's time to stop blaming the manager instead blame these complete wasters ..

We have gone through managers its like a circus act .. its embarrassing

Professional footballers may as well be children. If they've been  crap all season, they're not going to spontaneously sort it out for themselves. The only way this can be changed is by bringing in a new manager with different ideas. That's just the reality of the situation.

Or, if they continually let down different managers all of whom have different styles/personalities/experience etc. aren't the only people capable of changing it the players?

He has a choice of two awful left backs and two awful right backs (if we call Choudhury a right back and accept Pereira is a spent force) on the senior team, then Aluko who unfortunately can't play left back and right back at the same time.

Unfortunately there is a culture at the club where it seems acceptable for several players to merely turn up and go through the motions

Ferguson used to get rid of players that had won the league because things got stale, we have over paid players that have had multiple relegations, falls outs and been banished, then called on again. Is it any wonder the dressing room is of a toxic nature,  and the performances match.
There are many examples that have come to the surface, like Jannick and his dog, Winks and his sign. Imagine the stuff that goes on behind the scenes for these bunch of wet wipes.

I hope Rowett is more old school and takes no prisoners

Ferguson could largely spend what he wanted, and get rid of anyone he wanted with very little consideration for losses.

@em9999 is right.  The players are highly paid, elite, professional sportsmen.  It should be an absolute, non-negotiable prerequisite that they give 100% effort.

Unfortunately there is a culture at the club where it seems acceptable for several players to merely turn up and go through the motions.  This has been going on for too long under too many managers for it to be seen as the fault of the manager.

Tactics? Yeah, that's on the manager.  But lack of effort is something that appears to be allowed by the leadership of the club and encouraged by too many players.

The manager has a role to play in picking the players up mentally after a hard fought defeat, or getting an extra 5-10% out of them before a big game, but generally we have too many players that have consistently given about 70%.  And we can't get rid of them.

If a squad is so toxic that no manager can get a tune out of them, you need to weed out the bad characters during the transfer windows and replace them with better ones. And if the weak culture at the club is the root cause of player apathy, then of course you need to change the culture too.

The root cause of our problems is the weak culture that has set in under Top, which has filtered down to the playing squad. Our transfer policy has exacerbated and reinforced this weakness by packing the squad with overpaid journeymen. This cannot be changed overnight. If KP remain in charge, it will have to come from the CEO and technical director, so we'd better pray we somehow recruit well for those roles.

If we were a functional and well-run club, the manager could just focus on training, picking the team, choosing tactics and a bit of man management—everything else would be in place. As it is, we need a manager who can somehow establish a strong culture within the squad despite the deep-rooted ineptitude all around him. That's a very tough job, but not necessarily impossible. If Rowett can't achieve it, we will go down. There will be no other way to prevent it.

Whilst it's the managers job to get players playing. They can't give them personality transplants. The only way to fix a squad like we have is to replace players with better characters. We've been so badly run that a manager can't currently do that.

You have people who blame the manager because, quite frankly, they're terrible judges of football players/squads. There were people on here who were still saying in January that on paper this is the best squad in the Championship 😂. Or Marti's biggest fault is he's managed to convince people on here that this is a bad squad. How anyone can still look at our strike force or defence and think it's the best in the league is delusional.

This is a bad squad. Full of bad (experienced) characters, youth players who aren't ready and system players who need better players for them to play their game. We have no fight and it's a very short, physically weak team. It's just dysfunctionally made up.

We just need to s**thouse wins and rely on individual brilliance now cause that's all this group of players is capable of.

I do hope we give this guy chance. It's understandable why managers will have turned this job down. Ignoring the massive problems with Top and Rudkin; all you have to do is look on this forum to see how some people have unrealistic expectations of this squad or what a manager can do with it.

Can you imagine our interview process. Up comes a manager, coaching badges, perhaps a career as a professional player, maybe a medal or two. Whether they are good for us or not, most have paid their dues for where they are.

Then, they are sat there in front of Aiyawatt and bastard Rudkin.

So, Mr. manager what have you done to impress us.

What the **** have you two done. Ones a son of a billionaire with a genuine question around him as to whether he has learning difficulties. The other, coached Heskey once.
