st albans fox Posted 6 June Posted 6 June What worries me most about this is the cost how many youth players will we have to sell to finance his contract he’d not be coming unless he was getting a very decent package
adam Posted 6 June Posted 6 June He's gonna be on a ridiculous wage as well. Probably paying him more than some premier league teams pay their manager.

He's got the ego to believe that he'll walk it so you could offer payments on those terms. So we could, in theory, keep it cheap for when we bin him off in 17th.
Philkeavo Posted 6 June Posted 6 June This is Aiyatwatt’s decision. Rudkin and now McCarron are carrying out ‘Dear Leaders’ orders. Not the club. This has always been about one little man’s weird obsession.

I'm not usually one to play devil's advocate but I think he'll be ok for us given where we are at. Another factor is that he´s not in a job at the moment, so no compensation to pay. We are skint and so will continue to appoint the cheapest manager (Marti, Rowett) and sign the cheapest players, with the inevitable outcome

It may work out, hopefully, but this club needed someone who they could get behind right away. Even if it turned out to be shit later. They have just put so much more pressure on themselves, fans are going to jump on anything. Lose the first pre season game? It'll be Martin out. They have no idea what the fan base want, or if they do they certainly don't care. It almost certainly will not work. I just don't understand this obsession with possession. Why? For what reason? I don't even hate it when it's effective, and I was among Maresca's biggest advocates when the tide was turning against him here. But when it hasn't worked for years and the fanbase aren't getting behind it, what's the point in doubling down on it? Come to think of it, what's the point in even having an identity or playing style that at a club level, we operate? Between playing staff and the managers available at any given time, there are too many variables to resolutely stick to one style, especially in our position. We have a negative fanbase and rightly so. Hiring Martin plays right into that negativity from the off, so you can forget any clean slate or momentum shift. Added to that, we have a playing squad that got relegated primarily because they ranked bottom for sprints and distance covered. What value is there, then, in hiring Martin who's philosophy lends itself perfectly to idle football? The model is pretty simple. Sell anyone we can. Build the team around promising youth players. Buy the best players from League One and pick up players with a point to prove released from Prem and showing promise in League 2 with what remains. Bring in a manager capable of building a close knit group and garnering a culture which expects professional standards as the bare minimum. Somebody pragmatic enough to build a team and find the most effective way to help them to win games of football. But no, instead we choose to bring in a failing, roundly disliked manager on the basis he gets his teams to pass the ball around a bit. Why should that matter? Who gives a fvck? Will they, when they're paying out compo for what, the 4th time in as many years when we're once again falling well below what should be expected of us? Get these arrogant, clueless willy pullers out of this football club. I actively want us to fail at this point. Burn it to the ground until they leave. 5 2
James_lcfc Posted 6 June Posted 6 June We’re just not a serious club anymore. Hard to get annoyed about it, the whole thing is a comedy act at this point. 2
fox_favourite Posted 6 June Posted 6 June (edited) Here's a a concern I have....will many away pitches be good enough to play passing football? I would say no. Passing for passing sake will not get us out of this league. A manager that thinks hes better than he is, that plays a brand of football that is boring, that relies on teams coming at us so we can open them up. It isn't made for League 1 one bit. Stupid appointment if true Edited 6 June by fox_favourite
Skidmark Posted 6 June Posted 6 June Mass cancellation of season ticket renewals via direct debit anyone?
Libertine Posted 6 June Posted 6 June Cannot wait for the emergency BSLB pod when this is announced. @Ric Flair will have an all-timer. 4

You have to ask why he is ready to drop to L1 having been at Rangers and in the PL and a Championship promotion. Because his reputation is in pieces. He is the manager equivalent of our owner and DoF. An absolute joke in football circles. A one way ticket to L2 this is…. The way they'll pull off a 'coup' in their eyes will be offering stupid wages. I'd bet good money we'll make him the highest paid manager in third tier history. He holds all the cards over us. 2
