I am really struggling to put my best wishes for the club before any hopes I have for this season.

 

I genuinely want nothing but the worst for Top, Rudkin & now Martin. The former two have pushed me to a stage where I think my hatred for them is starting to outweigh my love for the club.

He ‘coached’ Rangers into not being able to defend. He’s taking on one of the worst defences in the history of the club and someone the club think this is the man to fix it

Can i just ask, what is the actual beef with leicester fans and russel martin? Is there a deep hatred or is it just that hes a bit of an arrogant *****? He should be able to do a decent job for us in league 1 really... i just want an appointment asap and get on with re-shaping the squad!

I’m not sure I get this. I get the feeling (from the last manager searches, games against Martin, Martin’s odd style of communicating to the media, and everything in between) that Russell Martin might be one of the most universally disliked managers among the City fan base.

 

A lot of fans young and old, KPFC and “Sack the Board” alike soured on Enzo Maresca. Without passing judgment on Enzo’s style in this thread, we are likely hiring a manager that uses a worse version of Maresca’s strategy and tactics and already has a poor reputation among our fan base.

This is not going to go over well; only the freakiest of fetishists will be knocking  one out over this hire.

Again it shows how tone death the club are. It may work out, hopefully, but this club needed someone who they could get behind right away. Even if it turned out to be shit later. They have just put so much more pressure on themselves, fans are going to jump on anything. Lose the first pre season game? It'll be Martin out. 

 

They have no idea what the fan base want, or if they do they certainly don't care.

But it wasn't like the fans did anything for 2 relegations, I doubt anything will change if we lost a few games.

The only time he did amend his way of playing was when we got to the play-offs, but he's so f**king arrogant about his philosophy that when asked about it afterwards, he claimed he didn't.

It's not a coup in any way.

 

Very average record at MK Dons. Lauded for possession numbers but didn't get them above the top half. Finished 13th in his first full season which is so so. Conceded 3 or more on 9 occasions.

 

Moved to Swansea and had two full seasons there. First season finished 15th. Conceded 3 or more on 13 occasions. Second season finished 10th. Conceded 3 or more on 7 occasions (bit better).

 

Interesting trend, happened especially in his first season at MK and his second at Swansea, was he went on a pretty good run late in the season. If you're being harsh (I am because I know he's crap) you'd say they're benefitting from playing under no real pressure and their season already being as good as over.

 

Southampton - horrific start, pulled it back with a very good unbeaten run. Won the play-offs. Still managed to concede 3 or more on 8 occasions. Second season had them on course to be the worst Premier League team of all time.

 

Rangers a complete disaster from the off. Absolutely smashed to pieces in Europe by Brugge. Won 1 game out of 8. With Rangers!

 

So he's peaked at taking a team with the 2nd biggest budget in the division to the Premier League and plateaued at the Rangers debacle. Everything else in between is very middle of the road with the one trend being his teams frequently shipping goals.

 

Budget here can only really be speculated on but this is already a fed up fanbase and squad. The only thing I would guarantee from his time here are that any popularity he has is on a knife-edge, and that we're going to have a few heavy defeats.

 

All in all - utterly stupid appointment. The peak of the style over substance era that we're absolutely fixated on. As the club that used to be the total opposite. Utterly sickening stuff.

 

Hopefully this is what forces those on the fence about the ownership onto the right side.

Russell Martin had a 1.4 points per game average over his managerial career.

 

so 64 points per season average (46 games), so basically a 10th place finish.

 

This is such an uninspiring appointment, but with the idiots that run the club, it’s only to be expected.

Agree with @Dan. People need to stop calling it a coup. Securing a manager on an upward trajectory would be a coup. This guy's career is clearly in terminal decline. Once he's failed here, he's probably done.

Hes a shite manager for starters who plays a slow, boring, pass pass pass style of football. But i think the main reason why everyone gets so fcked off with it is the clubs obsession at consistently turning to Southampton players/staff when they are a club who has been ran as badly as ours.

There is definitely some dodgy dealings going on for a club to be so regularly active every year in pursuing clientele associated with the same mediocre club. Following the same flawed methods that have contributed to our demise is not a refresh.
