At least, the last time in the third division we actually won a lot of games and winning games is way more enjoyable than losing lots of games.

I would love to believe this, but there's little evidence. 90% of our squad will be gone next season. Which I for one am actually looking forward to, quite frankly. However, that means probably replacing a good 10-12 players. There is no way we have the money for that, with Macquarie breathing down our necks.

Also, who is hiring the competent coach? Rudkin and Aiyawatt won't do that. You'd think it would be Mccarron once he's in, but I have a sneaking suspicion he has changed his mind. He was supposed to start beginning of April, and we've heard nothing.

It’s strange there’s been no official announcement that’s McCarron has started

But he has apparently started, he’s been seen working from the training ground this week, and seen at yesterday’s game

so clearly he’s not changed his mind, and appeared to have started.

Can the club enforce a pay cut/wage cut for League One?

Either that or the highest earners will have to be moved.

As I've stated in another thread, Top and Rudkin (ha) better have a contingency plan at hand for League One, we need players that want to be here most and foremost, not players simply picking up a wage check each week.

Because this financial disaster that has been going on for years now cannot continue. It's not feasible.

Just clearing them all leaves space for the youth players to be picked, if we can't sign anyone they have to play and with something to prove unlike the so called proven players we currently have, the level will raise. The level also surely doesn't have to raise as far for the likes of Braybrooke, Aluko, Alves, Hutchinson, Evans to play in league 1 compared with the championship.

Oh yeah, the youth players are a no brainer and we need to recruit a manager who has this skill set (so not Rowett).

Braybrooke and Aluko are obvious replacements for 2 of those you have mentioned in Ricardo and Winks. Page would also be first 11 for me but unsure whether he is naturally a 10 or a deeper central midfielder. Maybe he could be left of a 3 like KDH, Braybrooke and someone with a bit more experience to be brought in.

Unsure whether the others are starters. Monga will go I think but otherwise he’d replace Mavididi. Nelson will go also.

The others I would say probably start the season on the bench and get integrated.

The bigger question is if those still under contract, who would be accepted back in the side as it is unrealistic we will get rid of the lot.

We will need strong characters in league one it’ll be even harder. Every team will treat us like their cup final especially at our place. Away games will be grim especially in midweek. I remember Walsall away on a Tuesday night when we last went down it was like sitting in cow sheds. We won’t go up with academy players will need mentally tough experienced players. It’s gonna be a long season.

New players to come in and play our tried and tested formula 4231

Should be exciting

With a few old boys from this szn for experience

Bit of practice on set pieces

I see no issues and fully expecting to walk back up to the championship 🤣🤣🤣

Bit like how we walked down to league 1

So when we fail to win on Tuesday, relegation will be confirmed ...... is there any message from our clueless owner at this critical stage?  We demote?? Or anything??

Oh has he? Thanks for the heads up, that's a bit of a relief then. Where did you see/hear that?

Do we still receive parachute payment money in league one? Assuming we do plus the fact many higher earners can finally be released or sold then surely we’ll be in a financial position for a complete rebuild?

however, this McCarron bloke needs to lead it and not the totally inept Rudders. And arguably the most important appointment will be a manager capable of getting his ideas across to the players in a way that wins football matches

I’ve lost total faith in the club so all this is hope rather than expectation

Are we sacking Seagrave? I could do with some decent turf!

Id be amazed if McCarron sees out his probation at this point.

He’s still not personally announced he’s here. He had a big job at the city group so don’t think his pay rise will have been substantial enough to swallow being a League 1 Director of football.

He attended that one game the new directors came to but hasn’t been since.

I think he and the commercial director might have a rethink before the start of the season!

Is there a new manager thread? What monumental cock up are we expecting???

A certain someone who makes Top look tall…. (I realise this completely contradicts my above post lol)

Random thought, do we think relegation wage decreases will compound in L1. E.g. a player on a 40% cut and £50k in the PL would have been on £30k this season, then subsequently £18k in L1?

Might make some players easier to move on if so.

Dropping to League 1 will not have even been considered by the board.

The bloke admitted he’s still not sure how they fell from the Premier League.

They’ll realise at some point you either need to spend a lot of money, or have good recruitment to run a decent football club in England.

As the new finance rule now restricts the spending part, you are more reliant on good recruitment. Something we have not done efficiently for years now.

I’m pretty sure we’ll let everyone that is expiring leave, not really invest in the playing squad. Bulk it out with the overhyped youth we have. Then we’ll start the season with a defeat and continue on a downward spiral.

We are screwed and I’m not convinced we have a plan to get ourselves out of this hole we’ve dug.

Hopefully. Meanwhile, I saw this this morning…

It will be largely dependent on how the contract is worded.

If it’s “relegation to the Championship, then a wage reduction on the base salary of £5,000,0000 per annum would incur a 40% reduction”, then no.

If it’s “relegation from the league would incur a 40% reduction on the previous seasons salary”, then yes.

We’ll have a load of rats looking to jump ship either way I’d imagine. This is a massive stain on the likes of Winks, Vestergaard, Ricardo, Mavididi, Daka etc, as they’ve just not showed up all season.

A lass I know (wife’s friend) works at the training ground in admin, she said she’s seen him there throughout this last week mate

And as for him being at yesterdays game, I heard this on a WhatsApp group, a lad mentioned he saw him “mingling” at half time, haven’t seen any pictures though

We do still get them but I think we've factored anything until Feb 2027 with Macquarie so we won't see the cash, the PL will pay direct to the bank. They could, I suppose, do the same with the Y3 amount but it's much smaller (especially if it's at an 8-9% interest rate). Given big overheads, dropping ticket sales, reduced tv income and limited squad resale value I am intrigued to see where the club get the cash to operate next season from.

My only optimism sits in the fact that maybe this can be our lowest point from where we can somehow rebuild and bounce back stronger in Sunderland-esq style given our history and foundations.

but perhaps I’ve had too much optimism juice and should give myself a slap of reality with regards to who is steering the ship

I hope you're right but I can't see it. I think we're in a bind where the current ownership cannot make the changes needed but, due to emotional ties and the fact that it would be sold at such a small value compared to how much the family have put in (I reckon they'd have lost in total several hundred million pounds), mean that he can't/won't sell.

Time will tell I suppose

Obviously what they should be doing and what they are doing are 2 different things. Action needs to start this week.

Reality is we are League 1, we ain’t winning 3 games.

Stage 2 Rudkin needs to be promoted to Chief Horse Executive

We need a manager in in the next few weeks. Any player who doesn’t want to be here we need to get rid of them, even if it means taking a hit. Then we need to start building a squad of young players and players with something to prove, released from big clubs etc who actually want to be here. We need a pragmatic manager who takes no shit.,
