Leicester City eyeing NEC Nijmegen boss Dick Schreuder to replace Gary Rowett
Leicester find themselves searching for a seventh permanent managerial hire in just over three years, and are pursuing talks with one of the top-performing bosses in the Eredivisie as they look for Rowett's successor.

The manager in question is NEC Nijmegen boss Dick Schreuder, who, as per a recent report from the exclusive Patreon service of The Sun's Alan Nixon, has earned his fair share of admirers among the Foxes' hierarchy.

Nixon reported on Tuesday lunchtime that Leicester want to undertake discussions with the 54-year-old over the possibility of becoming City's new manager and leading the club out of League One.

It's said that Leicester are impressed by the Dutchman's body of work in his native country, although it remains unclear whether he is willing to take a third-tier job at this moment in time - which City are actively trying to find out.

Schreuder is currently earning no shortage of plaudits over in the Netherlands in what has been an excellent campaign for Nijmegen, who are on course to achieve an all-time highest league finish this term.

Leicester City fans, how would you feel about the potential appointment of NEC Nijmegen boss Dick Schreuder? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Despite working on a limited budget, Schreuder's side are positioned in third place with just three games to spare. They're above Dutch giants Ajax right now and are likely to secure UEFA Europa League qualification, while an entrance to the Champions League could be on the cards if they can topple Feyenoord in second.

Schreuder is no rookie in the duguout, having formerly led the likes of PEC Zwolle and Spanish second-tier outfit Castellon before taking the job at Nijmegen last summer.

Leicester City manager target Dick Schreuder has English football experience
Schreuder hardly represents a household name on these shores, although the sought-after Leicester target would bring some unexpected experience in the English game.

That's because, during a playing career which spanned 15 years and was primarily played out in Dutch football, Schreuder briefly undertook a forgettable two-game loan stint with Stoke City in the 1997-98 season.

The former midfielder only made two appearances in the Potteries before swiftly returning home, although he did later come back to England to accompany Edgar Davids in his infamous stint at Barnet.

Schreuder joined Barnet in June 2013 as head of coaching and, following the dismissal of Davids some six months later, he endured a short tenure as joint manager alongside fellow countryman Ulrich Landvreugd.

That spell culminated in four successive defeats and Schreuder proceeded to head back to the Netherlands once again that summer, although he's evidently come on leaps and bounds since his stay in North London and it will be interesting to see whether Leicester can convince the Dutchman to lead the club's new League One era.

We need a manager who's a little shrewder.

He’s on a contract until 2028 and we have no money or at the very least we can’t spend any.
Can’t see this happening.
It’ll be someone out of work.

Mendleson?

Sounds like the Dutch guy’s agent is after a new contract for him… but they could have chosen someone a bit higher up, surely?

Probably multiply times the money. I guess it depends on what drives people.

Not sure we want a money driven manager but probably the only type we'll get.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Hed taking a club into Europe. Surely that is a more attractive proposition than a failing club dropping down the pyramid?!

I'm calling bull released from the club to show they are A - ambitious (stupid) or B - they're actually looking (not really).

If we were a championship club that just missed out on the playoffs due to the points deduction, maybe. But a league 1 club, it's just utter rubbish

He has gone from Eredivisie to 3rd tier of Spain previously which you would think would be a similar “doesn’t make any sense at all” move

Aren't they all money driven?

Expect this coach is being touted all over europe (and beyond) by his agent.

I don't think they are some are career oriented , well at least when they start out.

The constant failure ones like Rowett will be money driven but I doubt Lampard is.

Thing is despite being at probably our lowest ebb, we are a big club, bigger than the last time we were in league 1.

We might be a mess, but if there is even the slight chance for someone to build something here, they might just decide to take a chance.

I get things are bad and this situation was so avoidable, but I think it's leading to some on here being prophets of doom.

I can't blame them for it, but this situation is manageable. We are a big pull still for a manager to sort us out.

If we look back in 5 years and it was the way to clear out the most hideous dressing room in our history, we managed to develop 5-6 academy players into being worth x amount and we are back at at least top half Championship level or Premier League - I dare say we will say it was for the best.

I do think our reputation, probably even more so outside of England would be "fallen giant, I can fix them". We'd still be viewed as an opportunity.

Albeit one I'd view as a big trap with this owner. But there'll be prospective managers who have less idea of this than we do.

When Ruud did his homework on us, he rang Enzo and was given completely the wrong impression of what this club is like to work for. That isn't to say Ruud was blameless. He was terrible.

But he was also lied to by a pair of frauds. I think Enzos goodwill towards them would very likely have ran out very soon after if he did not leave when he did.

I can't imagine Marti, Ruud, Cooper or Rowett giving anyone the thumbs up to come here. Hopefully Dick doesn't have their numbers.

RVN was keen to stay on and Rowett clearly wants the job. I'm not sure they all hate it as much as you imply.

I have a Dutch mate who supports Fortuna Sittard (similar sized club to NEC) and asked him about the prospects of getting Dick Schreuder.

He simply replied "top manager, sexy football"

I never heard about Ruud being keen to stay on. He looked miserable as anything when he was here and was undoubtedly lied to. But I'll take your word for it.

I know Rowett wants to stay on but he's been reported as seething about Enzo being here for his first game and was on record before we joined saying how poorly the club has been run.

I think in Rowett's case, the job is bigger than anything he will now go on to get so I can see why he'd want to stay. I think you can not think much of the owner and director and still want to stay.

He could well be an inspired appointment. WE know there's a lot of very good Dutch Coaches from Holland.

I was disappointed Ruud didn't bring any of them in to help him out.

I don't know anything about Dick but he's not a youngster so he's been around the game quite a while and unlikely to be intimidated by the task at hand.

He may well like the Challenge of rebuilding the Club while setting out the structures for the youth system as a whole with the view to creating a supply chain of players

going forward which will help with finances.

So he would be hired as a head coach right.......
