In the real world employees are given a probation period. Why the hell isn't a 6 month probation period put in for football managers so that clowns like Martin can't take the piss.

When Marti was eventually sacked I was surprised they did it.
Same with Cooper.

I wonder how many more losses are needed before he goes?

Automatic promotion is off the table IMO but I also know that staying in League 1 for another season would be a doomsday scenario financially.

I’m not sure what they are thinking especially when we went back to giving big contracts to journey men.

This is true, but in recent games the defenders have been mixing it up and hitting it long sometimes. Which begs the question: why didn't Okoli do that if he knows he is allowed to? The answer is probably that he just doesn't have the ability to judge those moments in a split second and make the right decision. Luton knew all about his shortcomings, so they pressed every player apart from him in the knowledge that the ball would eventually get to him as the free man. Then when it did, they were all over him.

So yes, it was about tactics, but it was also about who Martin has chosen to execute those tactics. Kangasniemi apparently has all the attributes to play the way Martin wants and was bought for that purpose, yet has been left out in favour of players who clearly can't play the way Martin wants. Is it just because they're trying to bed him in slowly or is he not showing it in training? Because he if doesn't start tonight I'll be very concerned...

Every team we have played against has done the same and then Okoli gives the ball away, plays a suicidal pass like at Middlesbrough away or toe punts it out of play like at Doncaster at home. I have a great view of it all unravelling from my seat in SK2. I dont think i have seen a worse centre half play against us either. Its literally every game he plays! I wonder how many goals he has cost us? Its Brussells fault, the same as it was Marti’s fault and Rowetts fault for playing him. Just drop him for good!

Look at his past results relative to the resources he’s had compared to the opposition. Even the Southampton side that got promoted through the play-offs in a two horse race, conceded lots of goals.

There’s no comparison between his football and Man City or other sides that play possession football. It’s superficial possession built on endless tippy-tappy passing at the back, which is exactly why his sides are so vulnerable and needlessly concede so many goals.

Zero tactical flexibility and barely any ability to adapt. He’s so obsessed with playing his way that he can’t see how badly it’s costing his teams - either that or he is purposely trying to get sacked and cash in early.

He’s an awful manager.

I actually find it mad that people want him to be adaptable, you wouldn't bring Big Sam to manage prime Barca.

Martin wins around 1 in every 3 games atm with a style he's been using for 7 years, can you imagine how bad it'd be if he tries to coach a team in a style he doesn't know.

He truly is an awful manager.

The two wins have given him weeks.

We had a good fraction of the fanbase and the media saying he'd "turned the corner" after a paltry couple of wins against absolute dross FFS.

He won't get us relegated, but he won't get us promoted either. He's doing exactly what he's always done which is be an average 1.4 ppg manager and we'll finish somewhere mid-table as a result.

I assume it just was Bristric and Kanga that were club signings?

Disgusting amount of trust put in Martin if the others were all on his recommendation!

Doesn't surprise me at all, but disgusting all the same

They would have wanted to prove Leicester fans wrong when we all knew RM would be a failure, so they gave him everything they wanted.

They probably believed RM as well, who would have blamed not being backed for his abject failure over the last 2 seasons rather than it being his fault.

I genuinely can't think of a manager, if you gave them the resources and the backing the owners have given Russell Martin, who wouldn't be able to get us promoted, it's so insane we're in this position already. Honestly, give Danny Drinkwater 5m and our current squad, he'd get you promoted.

Exactly. Across his first four seasons with MK Dons and Swansea, his record was remarkably consistent:

2019-20 (MK Dons): won 6, drew 6, lost 7

2020-21 (MK Dons): won 18, drew 11, lost 17

2021-22 (Swansea): won 16, drew 13, lost 17

2022-23 (Swansea): won 18, drew 12, lost 16

After that his record was:

2023-24 (Southampton): won 26, drew 9, lost 11

2024-25 (Southampton): won 1, drew 2, lost 13

2025-26 (Rangers): won 1, drew 5, lost 1

Now us so far this season: won 4, drew 3, lost 4. In other words (as you say), he's just returned to exactly the kind of form he delivered in the first four years of his career: midtable, with a roughly equal number of wins and losses.

Presumably the club appointed Martin because they hoped he would replicate his one genuinely decent season (out of seven) with us. That seems a highly speculative bet at best. It's not impossible he will achieve it—he has the squad to do it. But if he does it will be an outlier given his previous track record, and it seems odd that we've gambled our future on somebody bucking their own trend rather than following it.

Unlike some, I don't hate Martin. From what I can gather he's a decent enough bloke and I admire his determination to change the culture at Seagrave. I'd love it if he proved us all wrong, put together a 25-match unbeaten run and won the division. But his distinctly average stats prior to joining us suggest that's not likely.

This is remarkable. 2 things stand out to me:

1) He lost 11 and managed to get promoted from the Championship

2) How on earth did he only win 1 at rangers ffs. It’s a pub league !

In the year we went up in the Champ I didn’t pay much attention to Southampton as they were really really poor against us.

How/why do our management hire RVN because United played well against us but then still hire a manager that we totally annihilated?! Make it make sense.

We will probably win more than we lose this season which means the pressure will forever be off him - which sums up the total lack of standards. We shouldn't be dropping points 7 times before Christmas, let alone before Haloween. Losing and failure is so normal now that losing to Luton isn't even considered the disgrace it should be.

We are playing catch up. Whatever the opposite of credit in the bank is. That's what he has.

Once again, 7 wins in a row needed to take us to 2 points a game. That takes us to mid December, and assumes a team who've not managed 3 in a row in nearly 3 years can go and win 7.

It's a joke how little pressure he's under.

The lack of standards here is shocking.

Sheffield Wednesday consider 8th not good enough.

While we accept that 13th is absolutely fine in league fvcking 1!!!!

You really couldn’t make it up.

Get this ***** gone asap.

And a win tonight gives him nine points from 12. Don’t see him leaving anytime soon if we win.

We will end up finishing like 14th but he will never lose enough games in a row to get the sack given how stupid our owner is, any players worth a damn will be sold to balance our books yet again and we will be stuck with a squad full of absolute dossers on high wages with an incompetent manager and no hope of any positive direction

Martin household late this afternoon.

RM 'Right love, I'm off to work.

Lucy. OK pet. See you later.

RM. Remember to check out those fine country homes and luxury car websites, we should be getting another windfall soon.

Lucy. Holidays too?

RM. Whatever you wish. Bye

The most depressing situation is that every game I will be hoping we win, but any points we get mean keeping him longer and there is no hope of any progression as a club until he is gone

Horrible situation isn't it, I never want us to lose but I want RM out....

Who was the last time to come to the KP and get properly battered (not including Fulham’s u14)….was it Southampton managed by this legend ?!

Martin ball:

Point A to point B is 5 miles down the motorway, you can take your lambo.

Instead you opt for a scenic route which is 35 miles, and you keep getting lost, half the time you make a wrong turn and end up where you started, other times you forget your keys and don't even start. Oh, and instead of the Lambo your driving a banged up PT cruiser which you paid four times its value for and it can breakdown at any moment but you still dont invest in RAC or AA.

Not including us against Oxford?

Slowly sliding on the thin ice again, but this time, he's approaching the shore again.

Personally, I couldn't stand being this long off solid ground.

I guess he likes it risky.

Yeah - let’s just sack him. Like we sacked Rodgers, Cooper and Cifuentes. If we’d have stuck with any of them three we’d still be in the championship now. The same people saying sack him will be the same people who wanted O’Neill sacked and will be the same people who will want the next guy sacked after twelve games. Why do they even bother following the game? Just get a HR job if you hate football and like people getting sacked so much.
