Could Russel be the Head Coach to finally set a proper pathway for our Academy Players to get into the first team? 
 

His hand might be forced, however it’s a challenge he will embrace I would imagine. 
 

If he gets us firing and playing good football, then I think people might take to him.

There are a few that are leaving him with no choice and I hope he embraces it. 
 

Genuinely think an academy 11 would do well for us this season

I think a lot will depend who we bring in.

 

I think there a good chance we will see a lot of Alves, Braybrooke, Joseph and Aluko in the league the first three having a decent amount of experience and Aluko has shown he has the physicality.

 

I think Aluko and Joseph are battling it out for RB.

 

Outside of those I think the rest we be fringe players.

 

I still think we are going to see 6 or 7 more in.

League one is a long hard slog of a season. Plug the various cups. The youth players will get plenty of chances

I'd be interested to see what Martin thinks of Aluko at CB, not long term, but as cover.  Aluko and JJ is good for RB.  I still liked what I saw from Aluko last preseason when he played at CB, and if we're getting more out the door it may become an option.

Could be, it sounds like all our current CB are for sale, Nelson, Souttar, Faes and Okoli.

 

Kevon Gray lacks experience, I can see a incoming at CBs.

Yeah but that’s basically what we have been used to the last few seasons, plus the players being really disliked. It really couldn’t get much worse than it has been.

Never say it can't get any worse. It always can and with Veg Lasso at the helm the potential for more pain is very high!

I really didn't want him but I've not seen anything from him since he joined that I dislike.

 

Sometimes people are just bad fits at clubs, and if a fanbase like Rangers' rejects you maybe that's not a bad thing.

 

Feels like a lot of the criticisms that he's "weird" just relate to being a vegetarian and doing meditation...

To be fair, we aren’t seeing that right now. Transitions are quick up the pitch and we are pretty direct. There is play out the back for sure, but it’s faster than Marti ball. And there are clear patterns of play. 
 

I was expecting a horror show in preseason, especially as we were in such a bad place. I have been pleasantly surprised.

We are all well aware by now about his past and what that might mean for us. 

It is boring now though, and I just want us to get on with it and we will see what happens down the line.

To be fair it’s really not hard to be better than Marti ball which was also known as utterly clueless ball, that guy had absolutely not tactics or football knowledge. Honestly it’s appalling how bad he made us, coco the clown could have done better.

I’m aware you are a Rangers supporter and his time there was bleak. His style of football isn’t for everyone, much like many people here we’re not a fan of the style Maresca, which also focussed heavily on ball retention and grinding teams.

My concern will be, similar to England in many ways at the World Cup, how do we break down teams that sit back deep in a low block against us. I didn’t watch see much of his time at Rangers, however I can imagine you experience that quite a bit as well. 

 

The thing is, I don’t think we will draw / lose most games. However 45% win ratio at Southampton, 37% at Swansea / MK Dons. He  should do a steady job at we did have creative players in Alves, Mavididi etc. The test will be, does he adapt on field of things aren’t working and do we have a plan B. Maresca didn’t in reality, however he did a very good job with us. 

 

It’s the old argument to a degree, could Pep win with an inferior squad of players. They all try and play this type of football high is pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, which is great if you have the players to do it. He’s maybe got time on his side at Leicester, as in reality we are a mess of a football club. I’m sure at Rangers he would have had that, even if the results were better. 
 

He’s clearly a more suited coach to our style, unlike the appointment of Cooper or even Rowett. 
 

Only time will tell.

 Cifuentes was just an off choice, given who else was available. Given what played out last season and the rumours of the squad harmony and egos, hindsight points to us requiring a Head Coach that was maybe a bit more Roy Keane (Roy Kent) than Ted Lasso.

To be honest I didn’t ever feel watching that Marti side that he had a plan a. He was a poor choice of manager from the outset

Agreed. 
 

Same could be said for Cooper and Van Nistelrooy.

 

Ultimately you need the right players to play the style of football, if you aren’t going to adapt from a philosophy. 
 

This is why going from Maresca to Cooper in our return to the Premier League made zero sense.
