His post match comments fixed for the season.

“You can’t give teams a head start, and we did, we gave them two goals (As required - and we have a man sent off,) we can’t afford to do that against any opponent, anywhere we go.”

Thanks.  Not exactly very enlightening analysis.

I guess he didn't have any suggestions why, after he'd prepared the team during the previous week's training and prepped them pre-match mentally, they still went out and committed hari-kari?  Hardly an endorsement for his team preparation and match tactics.

Go back and look at the goals we conceded against Nott C and Burton they are cause by basics, nothing yo do with style of football.

You are making a massive mistake talking about the goals. The finishing is largely comical in the league, although i argue Burton took their 2 goals well.

Look at the opportunities we gifted that they didnt capitalise on. First 10 mins of the second half a calamitus error from the keeper playing to Souttar gifted the striker a one on one. Then shortly after Thomas playing sidewise in the 'Winks style' but completely missing Aluko. At least one of those could have been taken. All this, whilst we are creating nothing, and could easily have been 4-1 down around the 60th minute. And it was a similar story against Notts County, who should have been 1-0 up early on because of how we play.  We literally hand chances on a plate.

Its because the manager plays a balmy version of possession football at all costs.

Nothing I saw yesterday made me change my opinion.

I still think he looks and sounds like an Oasis fan, with his stupid 90s curtains and not bothering to put on proper clothes to manage a football match.

The guy is a complete chancer, it’s amazing how he keeps getting employed as a football manager.

We have appointed some real stinkers as managers over the last few seasons.

Started with Cooper, and we’re paying the price for the terrible signings we let him make.

I think Russell though, is the first manager to be worse than Cooper

Cooper does not play that style, nor does Rowett.

As for counter attacking football, that is only possible when you cede possession to the opponents. It was fine when we were an underdog in the premier league when we won it and opponents wanted the ball. In this division even more so than The Championship, we are the big dogs, the majority of opposition will not want the ball. They’ll hold a deep block and try and do us on the break or settle for a draw. We can’t force an opponent to be the possession based team at this level. What we have to be is way better whilst inevitably dominating possession. We need to be quicker, more intelligent with our passing, more incisive and yes at times way more pragmatic than trying to play stupid passes via a goalie that can’t kick the ball to defenders who can’t pass a ball. We aren’t though built for a 442 longs balls into the box. The squad lacks that skillset and the physicality in the attacking middle in numbers for that style of football.

They did though, I agree they dont always but with our squad they absolutely tried to it was slow attacks passing round the back under both managers.

442 was just an expression for back to basics dosent have to be that formation and as for your statement on couterattacking dosent work the one goal that we did score against Burton came from a quick counter attacking break moving the ball forward quickly and getting into the box

I'm sure most of you have seen this fact before but I'll just put out there again -

The 2020/2021 season, only Man City and Barcelona had a higher average possession percentage than Martin's MK Dons side, who finished 13th in League One.

Big Sam said back in the day when he was West Ham manager, if you want to play that style of football, you need £100mil to spend on the very best players capable of playing it, otherwise it simply doesn't work.

It hasn't worked anywhere that Martin has managed before and it isn't working now. Regardless of whether we've got the players for it, it's become too easy to play against. We've seen this already in the last two games.

Burton basically just gave the blueprint of how to play against us to every other manager in the league - on match day two - and unless Martin recognises and addresses this, we are in for a horrible season.

I remember Southampton having the 2nd highest possession % after Man City until Martin was sacked.

They also broke the PL record for most defensive errors leading to a goal - less than half way into the season, mind you.

Russell Martin talks a good talk but as a manager, he is useless - a complete fraud.

Yeh so there’s proof that Martin’s system does incorporate a quick break. Doesn’t change the fact that in league one we will have most of the ball whether you like it or not. You cannot force another team to have possession, particularly when you are seen as the big fish in the pond.

This shows fundamental lack of understanding of team setup and tactics. It's not just about whether the other team wants to hoof the ball back at you when they get it!

Possession isn't a problem in and on itself. It's what you do with it (and how you set up to deal with counters) that counts

Watching the Newcastle fans celebrate Keegans life, make me think what it would be like to have a really likeable attacking manager.

I honestly don’t understand the point of this stand still possession football. It’s high risk at the back with low rewards, up front it’s not effective unless you have movement and people breaking the lines, we have neither.

Problem is, in the terrible financial situation we find ourselves in now, there is only a certain calibre of manager we can afford. Unfortunately that level, is every manager since Enzo left. Martin is pure dross, bloke hasnt got a clue and is stealing a living. Until we are sold, restructed and have money to spend, it will be a case of rinse repeat with every shit manager available.

We looked better with Riley Carr,  Lorenz Hutchinson, Tommy Neale and Otchere up top. I understand they only played in friendly matches but each one was a willing runner and Carr and Hutchinson have pace to burn.

Overlooking our promising youngsters in favour of loan signings and of the same age is pretty damning and further damages his reputation.
I don’t want the bloke to fail but taking off your number 9 and replacing him with BDCR shows how little he knows about In game management especially with the wingers he brought on. Absolute guff and hot air he spouted about him being tired. He had just tracked back 30 yards and put in a good tackle before being subbed. Plus Burton were tiring.

Unless Martin adapts pretty quickly then I’m afraid he won’t make the end of September and I wonder whether Conor Hourihane will step up to replace him.

The McCarthy and Cullen signings tell me everything I need to know about this fraud. Ill fitted to his ill style of football. Players who he has had before no less.

Has started Luke Thomas in 3/3 games. Has ended up with Bob up front in 3/3 games.

He's a fraud. Never 'had' me in the first place but any tiny % chance that he was ever going to have vanished already.

Surely we can afford Challinor or Fuchs.

We'll let Challinor go to Sheffield Wednesday. Another tap in missed while we play it around the back (and give it away).

Always feel like Russell Martin thinks himself as elite manager, even the way he dresses on the touchline he thinks he's in the same club as the likes of Unai Emery, Mikel Arteta, Pep etc.. and just look he was outsmarted by Gary Bowyer.

He's done a good job at Burton to be fair, but yep no defence of RM.

You'll be able to add John Souttar to that list when we sign him this week.
