Before 1974, the competition winners won a cup called the Jules Rimet Trophy. Now, they win a trophy commonly called the World Cup.

It'll be the Donny Trump Cup before the final comes around

Meanwhile we bounce from Dallas to Boston to NY/NJ to Atlanta to Mexico City, then possibly Miami and back to Atlanta. With our team base in Kansas.

France will have to fly across to play in Dallas once in the Semis. Apart from that everything on the doorstep of their base, compared to everyone else. It was actually quite nice seeing them have to play in high temperatures for a while yesterday although the shade quickly closed over the pitch.

It’s almost as if FIFA are desperate for Argentina, France and Portugal to all get as far as possible without playing one another.

I may be wrong but can’t they all get to the semis without facing eachother?

Think ITV have smashed the bbc in every aspect. Bbc seemed to have gone for cheap from the fake background in the studio, the intro and some of the pundits.

Of course they've done it on the cheap if they spent any decent money on it they'd be bombarded with complaints. ITV will be raking in the £s form their advertising so can afford to splash out. For me if the football is broadcast adequately the rest is optional padding. I prefer the BBCs broadcast as I watch it on iPlayer in UHD.

I'm hoping to watch the 7am screening of England v Mexico match, blissfully unaware of the score.

However, If I get awoken around 3am with fireworks going off, I will find you, stick a rocket up your arse, light the blue touch paper and stand well back.

I'm sure the USA thinks that

May be an image of football, American football and text that says "American fans are FURIOUS on social media after Balogun's red card against Bosnia. Many believe that if Balogun was sent off for that challenge, then Lionel Messi should have also received a red card against Algeria in Argentina's first World Cup game. USA fans don't understand the difference in criteria and feel both challenges were almost identical. American fans are now demanding answers from FIFA over what they see as inconsistent refereeing criteria. MESSI 10 4 on"

Argies are getting the same treatment from officials that they got in Qatar.

They aren't getting free penalties every game this time around but they're still getting the rub of the green.

Could say the same with England and Konsa against Ghana with that ridiculous flying challenge.

That Balogun red card being over turned is a laugh

Not at all surprising, just the way of the world is with america and soccer, can't upset the yanks.  He'll probably score the winner now lol.

Just becomes more and more evident that we need to separate the rest of planet earth from America imho send them off into space

FIFA are taking us to Saudi soon after putting us through Qatar.

Do you think they care?😂

Seeding in tournaments pretty much always works in a similar fashion.

The way I’m reading it, it’s not even been overturned, just the ban suspended for a year.

This is one of the most outrageous and corrupt decisions I’ve ever heard of in my life.

A red card has always been a suspension and never been a suspended ban ever. Unbelievable.

Now that's corruption. If that was Bellingham, would it have been over turned? Honestly, it's a disgrace.

For me, the corruption is as much about Messi not being red-carded, presumably because of his star status.
