BR didn’t seem to coach him to stop slowing down to turn 270 degrees to make a pass. Enzo turned him into a really good player that drove forwards and made passes all over rather than killing momentum. Nelson was solid at first next to JV, then he started playing like him. Maybe a new manager and now the rot has gone, he can hopefully show us what he can really do. He was still criticised for being one footed under Enzo. You would like to think everyone was overwhelmingly positive about Dewsbury Hall while he carried us to the PL but they weren't. Only now that he plays for someone else in the Prem is he seen as the gold standard. Edited 19 July by honeybradger 3

Watching KDH drive with the ball compared to Skipp who will always ping the ball back under no pressure after the defence have spent 20 passes trying to move forwards. He stretched the wingers to run and receive the ball in space ahead. Hopefully we can either see something of Nelson that helps us get out this league, or we get some cash for him. If

I’m just making the point that people are happy to slag him off, call him L1 quality etc then have a fit when it is suggested another club could offer £6 mill. For what it’s worth, I rate him highly as a future PL player and think whoever buys him from us makes a big profit. But people slating him then moaning about the fee can’t have it both ways. The facts are, we are a L1 club in dire straights, he was a reserve last season so it doesn’t really matter what his importance would be this season. And importantly, a year left so can agree with an overseas club from January. Basically, if anyone pays £10 mill to us when they can get him for free soon, they are daft. If we put the shoe on the other foot, it was another club quoting us this when we were in the PL, we’d be laughing at them. Its entirely possible that in a forum of several hundred/thousand people, the ones slagging him off aren’t the ones unhappy about the 6m offer

The finished article should be at the very least a Premier League player. A buying club is buying that potential and its only because we are in dire straits that we should even entertain £10m. I am simply making the point that due to how we have messed his development up, along with our decline as a club, we are not in a position to demand that. He wasn’t first choice for us last season in a side that we shit and got relegated to the third tier. 2 hours ago, coolhandfox said: The club has a much better grasp of market interest than we do. For instance, we’ve already received bids from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Torino, while Manchester United and West Ham remain interested. While most of us would have sold McAteer for £3 million, the club managed to secure £12 million. Ultimately, teams aren’t paying for his current output because they are investing in his potential, and I expect we will likely find a middle ground with a buyer around the £8 million mark. Yeah I would agree here. But you make a good point about potential and not his current output. Most logical people can see this but we seem to have a number of fans who have already written him off as no good. 1 hour ago, DezFox said: Why is he reserve? Is that nailed on, what even is a reserve, seriously outdated term. Adds zero relevance to what you saying. Make no mistake, If Ben Nelson is here next year, he is a starting CB. Wild to think otherwise. Back up, substitute, whatever you want to call it. He started in less than half our games, took a few months to be given any chance at all and was the one dropped again when our other centre backs were hardly any better, despite being experienced and the ones who should have been setting an example. I’m sure he would start if he stayed this coming season. My point was that he wasn’t a starting member of the team last season so it didn’t really show we valued him. That is the point. If we valued him, he may have been more likely to sign a new contract and we might be able to get more for him. As it is, it’s clear the club and a many fans don’t value him based on his treatment to date.
Clever Fox Posted 19 July Posted 19 July I like Nelson as a player but he needs to toughen up and get some agression going into his game. Which I suspect he will learn soon.
sm1 Posted 19 July Posted 19 July Sadly he doesn't want to be here, which is a shame because I think he'll thrive next to Souttar. We either let him leave for free next season or get what we can now. 1

coolhandfox Posted 20 July Posted 20 July The amount of clubs linked he's agent is doing a lot of hard yards.
Sly Posted 21 July Posted 21 July So it’s now Manchester United, West Ham, Sunderland, Torino, Monchengladbache Price is £12m 3

I really can’t understand why Nelson is so underrated on FT We have our worst ever season where he was no better or worse than our other CBs, with pretty much no midfield cover and somehow if he was any good he should have single handedly kept us up. He's held to a higher standard than the rest of our central defenders despite not costing £15m ish and probably on 1/3rd of the wages. He has almost all of the raw ingredients to be a very good CB, hence why teams much better than us are interested. Edited 21 July by Stadt 9

I really can’t understand why Nelson is so underrated on FT I personally try and look at the performance of the younger players in the context of the club decline and as such, give them more leeway. I have done the same with Stolarcryk for example. There will be times where the player doesn’t amount to much and that faith will be misplaced and there will be times where the player goes on to much bigger things than us and the critics look silly, such as with KDH. With Nelson, I just think back to the Huddersfield cup match where he came into so much criticism. This showed there was, albeit a vocal minority, who will just not have him and probably want to be proven right in their criticism. I worry that the same will happen to the likes of Braybrooke, Alves, Page and Aluko the minute they have a bad game. Then you probably have a much larger proportion of people who genuinely just expect the same from a 21 year old academy player with limited experience that they would from a seasoned international that’s been signed for say £15 mill. This is why there is so much underrating I think. We will have to see how he goes on at his next club but I certainly think he’ll do well once he leaves us. Unfortunately the decline of the club, the toxic culture from the owner downwards has created an environment that is not suitable for good young players. It’ll be interesting to see how many who have left us go on. We’ve already seen the likes of Barnes, Tielemans and even Perez back in Spain doing a great job. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised to see Daka even, return to goal scoring form wherever he ends up. 2
moore_94 Posted 21 July Posted 21 July West Ham getting around £150m for Fernandes and Summerville They can afford £10m for Nelson 3
Foxes96 Posted 21 July Posted 21 July Torino have just signed a 19yo CB Luka Tomić. Wonder if that means they’ve moved on from Nelson now
