I agree, in terms of he's not the man for RMs way of playing.

It's just a shame that we will probably lose a really good defender (in any other system), because we play a certain way.

Souttar is an ok passer of the ball. Not great but not terrible either. He's clearly not an obvious fit for a Russell Martin side but he's slightly more suited to RM's style than Okoli. Don't be surprised if our first choice CB pairing ends up being Souttar plus a young loanee from a PL club brought in after Faes goes.

Try to play a certain way:ph34r:

It's more annoying that we don't have a centre half other than Faes who's capable of playing this way yet he's going to persist with it

Souttar should be one of the first people out the door after his performance against notts county, clearly doesn’t want to be here and isn’t going to play for the badge.

We've just got to hope that the Wrexham interest is legit.

I'm not massively against keeping Souttar though, giving him the benefit of the doubt that last weeks' sh1te performance was due to the fact he was close to a move.
He doesn't seem like the kind of bloke who won't get over it and roll his sleeves up if he doesn't get a move.

I can imagine the club are disappointed if they thought they might get £8m+ for him.

If he stays, the club needs to do everything they can to offload Okoli and bring in a young, mobile defender who is good on the ball

If he doesn't go then it'll give him the motivation to put in the performances to get a move in the winter window. Same for anyone else that wants out.

I actually think he'll do ok solely based on his performance in the last home league match.

I hope Rudkin shits himself seeing this. If it's true we turned down a decent bid because we've invented a ridiculous valuation for a very very ordinary footballer then it's crazy he is still in his job. Every season we seem to turn down bids for rubbish footballers or extend their contracts believing they'll magically be worth something.

It's his job to get the highest fee possible and Sheffield United were willing to pay that, you can hardly blame Rudkin for Sheffield United's own financial problems under your own weird logic he'd have accepted the first offer and got well below what they were willing to pay which we would all rightfully call stupid

He may have also turned down the offer because he didn't want to get involved in a transfer deal with a club who had financial issues.

Him and Okoli must stay now until Jan at least. We need to get another CB in and another striker and we are about there for now. Obviously Faes and Mavididi out the door is important too.

In a vacuum that makes sense, but we have seen so many players we spent millions on walk away for nothing.

We clearly have form for holding out for fees no-one is willing to pay and should therefore be deemed unreasonable.

I don't think Souttar is going to be a moaner and he is definitely capable enough at this level that it shouldn't hurt us, but the club do not get the benefit of the doubt on stuff like this.

The only question here is what is going on at SU behind the scenes, which may be a valid concern but in that case why would negotiating for more be ok?

Sometimes you can't get the maximum you think we should get for a player.

Holding out for more money has cost us more than it has earned us in the long run.

Except it was the amount they were going to pay before all their issues flared up, you're basically asking Rudkin not only to understand the finances of a completely club but also see the future and know that they are going to get themselves into trouble barely a week later and pull out.

If they were willing to pay for it earlier and Rudkin was going to accept it surely we could have reached an agreement?

We have turned down multiple bids, the way I see it was we were probably looking to maximise the money and it backfired.

I don’t think Souttar in isolation on the ball is a big issue, having him in the side with Okoli and Thomas makes it a bigger issue.

If you put a ball playing CB and LB alongside him its eases the pressure.

Having said that I still expect him to go somewhere.

Messing about buying ageing wingers and attacking midfielders when we already had young talent in those areas when the CB position is a bin fire is so on brand for this club. We have 4 senior CB's (Okoli, Faes, Souttar & Gray). Gray is too raw and didn't make the bench even when we had no other CB's to fill the bench. The other 3 don't want to be here and one of them, Okoli, cannot play RM's football. That position needed to be made immediate priority even if it meant having 5-6 and then letting 2 go late on loan.

Rudkin produces about 3 sackable offences a year. A complete freak of a situation he's still in a job.

Bollocks to him. We've wet nursed him throughout pretty much his entire career here. Time to pay some of that back and put a shift in for us.

Its all well and good agreeing a deal with Sheff Utd, but if they cant or dont actually pay (which is what they have been penalised for previously) what good is it to us other than he is off the books? I imagine very little of the reported fee would have been paid upfront.
