Aren't happy clappers blissfully oblivious to problems, loss of hope etc? Isn't that why they're called happy clappers? I don't really associate them with with downtrodden rhetoric about the state of the modern game - the term would lose all meaning if that was the case.

No idea what happy clapper actually means but it is a hilarious term. You do sound like a happy clapper as an addendum to this post

To happy clap is to be human. The happy clap masks our internal disquiet and protects us from those uncomfortable truths that lurk in our subconcious. When the happy clap stops, the unease descends.

So shirt pulling and holding allowed in every game with nothing done. Unless your playing Argentina.

You were Irish and hated England the other Saturday lol

I consider myself more Irish than I do English, more of my direct family are Irish, and only a portion half. I always followed both as a kid, but I followed England more intently because all of my mates followed England and I wanted to follow England as well as Ireland, plus Ireland are shite so that probably had something to do with it too….. but the older I got the closer to my Irish sides got through travelling to see my cousins over in Kilmovee….

Since then I’ve certainly become more distant from my English heritage and closer to my Irish.

But after all the piss taking over the last few weeks, I did actually enjoy watching the Mexico game, and thought England were undeniable very good….. and despite my recent distain for England, (which is probably stronger in the egg chasing sport, and towards the monarchy) I actually felt quite pleased England won, because their performance warranted it….

Ill carry on taking he piss out of my mates if they go on to lose, because I’m a cůnt, and that I won’t deny.

What i hate is the greed of ticket prices . Fifa should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen it is absolutely disgraceful.

Other than that, been a good world cup but not the best!

Wish Canada had more stadiums (larger) so that we could have hosted more games.

The problem is all the stadiums have been full, so they’ll keep doing it.

People have to see a game regardless of they are skint or not right?

It does feel like football is leaning into Sports Entertainment rather than actual Sport sometimes.

It is increasingly becoming Americanised. Ad breaks splitting games into quarters will in the prem very soon now they have seen how much money can be made

Too many commentators recently on PL matches, “we’re into the last quarter” instead of saying there’s 25 minutes left. Also, for a number of years, players in a certain position have been described as “quarter backs”! Not sure when added time became “over time”.

I used to get hung up on this but it was how the English originally called it based Association Football likewise Rugby Football became Rugger.

Now  i think there's worse changes happening than calling it soccer which many countries other than the USA do some way more associated with England than the USA Australia, New Zealand, Canada plus a few Commonwealth Countries. It gets pretty confusing in those countries if you don't use there.

Anyone who remembers Star Soccer shouldn't get too hung up over the word.

I used to watch star soccer every Sunday unless I was playing.

I also know where the the word soccer came from don't mean I have to agree with it.

The game is shot to shit and has next to nothing to do with the game.

ALL THAT MATTERS NOW IS THE MONEY.

The more this goes on the less I like it.

It's bent fixed and corrupt. The head of the prem in 2016 told everyone how corrupt it is.  He should have been happy at our win like the thousands of fans from other small clubs. See the Watford banner after Vichai's death.

But NO the **** just wants the big 6.

Agree but it's way, way down the list.
