If you're static, you can very obviously shield the ball. 

 

If you're running and someone is running behind you, you very obviously can't hang a leg out, wave it between their legs and trip both of you up, no.

Yeah so by this logic, you can't whilst running make a genuine attempt to shield the ball if you initiate contact with a defender behind you. Agree to disagree I think
