Popular Post Sunbury Fox Posted 5 August Popular Post Posted 5 August (edited) This is BDCR Mark 2. Loved at his former club as an honest if limited trier. Tick. Way past his best (which was not great anyway). Tick. Given 3 year contract to convince him to join, by the end of which we'll be desperate for him to leave. Tick. Offering 3 year contracts to players over 30 with a recent bad injury is frankly horrific business. It's why he's coming to us in L1 rather than joining some no mark bottom half Championship club. We will never learn. Edited 5 August by Sunbury Fox 6 2

Alves I feel now reflecting might be off on loan or was forewarned about all these attacking players coming in. If Alves can't get a game with us in L1, he'd be better off looking for a move away.

fox_favourite Posted 6 August Posted 6 August 3years but on how much? Are we over stretching ourselves financially again and lessons haven't been learnt?
Popular Post Bluearmyfox28 Posted 6 August Popular Post Posted 6 August (edited) The constant forced negativity from the same members on this forum is hilarious. It’s the same members that state we are doomed financially if we don’t go up but also that we should play a whole season with academy players with zero men’s football experience. Make your minds up! This isn’t football manager where you can trust a squad of 20 year olds to go unbeaten. You need the blend of experience for the young lads to turn to and guide through a gruelling season, it’s not rocket science. Throughout RM has said he wants different profiles, Burns gives you exactly that being the more direct winger whilst Alves gives you the inverted option, that’s what you want! This narrative of “he blocks someone’s pathway” is utter bs. If someone was good enough they had a whole pre-season to show it. What more of a chance do you want? I’ve seen people say he blocks Alves, again absolute bs. Sports is based on a squad not the starting 11. Both Alves and Burns will see plenty of game time using rotation to keep both fresh and firing whilst using competition to bring the best out of each other. If they don’t like it then leave because that’s the mindset we can’t put up with no more. It’s literally that simple. Personally I think it’s a great signing. For once in years I look at the squad and see a balanced squad offering different profiles and styles for each position. With the additions of Bristic and Burns all the squad is missing is a proven goalscorer and the squad is complete. Genuinely very happy with the business we’ve done so far each position has some serious competition whilst offering different profiles to rotate dependent on what the opposition puts in front of us. No. I would not expect a fee. Town have a reputation for releaseing their older players if they may not be used constantly. See Morsy and Chappers. The point I was trying to make, clearly not very well, is that if there is no fee to find it takes the pressure off the cost of the length of the contract.

Claudio Fannieri Posted 6 August Posted 6 August I know it’s been mentioned by a few that it’s a 3 year contract and £20k per week but in truth none of us really know for sure the structure of the deal, it could well be a 2 year deal with option for 1 more on certain criteria, it could also be that his wage is closer to £10k but with appearances and performances linked bonuses could hit nearer £20k. Look at Perez it was rumoured we paid £30m when it was actually reported it was closer to £16m up front with add ons taking it to £30m. I would take everything I hear in relation to fees, contracts and wages with a pinch of salt as often either side of a deal will potentially spin it for their own agendas and through Chinese whispers also things end up becoming very different to reality. 3

It's reported he signed a recent 1 year deal at Ipswich for £22.5k per week. If we're offering him £20K in league 1 it's utter madness.

The length of the contract could be a clue if he is prioritising some security for 2/3 years over a higher wage for 1 year. £22.5k over a year - £1,170,000 Say £10k a week over 3 years is £1,560,000 Hypothetical numbers but it definitely seems like one where the wages will be much lower over longer. 5

It works both ways, it’s a forum with opinions. Sometimes I for example, think twice about expressing an opinion in a way that might seem too negative because I just don’t feel like dealing with various people piling on accusing me of negativity etc. So it’s not like it’s just a case of people being positive getting criticism. Each topic will naturally have a consensus either way and most people will share a similar view because they have their own mind and that view can be similar to others. 1

Great post this. You’ll already know who is gonna be moaning and having a dig. It’s embarrassing and I don’t know what they’re trying to achieve. You just can’t win with them and no matter what they’ll go the opposite way. Don’t sign anyone. What’s going on. Sign players. Shit signing. Nothing is ever good enough, it’s like they can’t wait to just slate the club. 11

roblcfc84 Posted 6 August Posted 6 August This season we’ll be playing physical teams, many with a low block and absolutely determind to beat leicester. We are also trying to change the culture at the club. You cant do that with youth alone. We’ll need experience and good solid proven pros around. 1

Don’t you worry mate - there are plenty of us in this camp - unfortunately there are a few still in the other that shout loud enough and have worship followers on here that just agree with them no matter what they say anyone who has any clue at all about football knows there is plenty of logic and common sense in what you are saying - my post was almost identical - but you will get shot down by the loud negative lot so fair play on standing your ground 👍👏 1

And I'm sorry but building a team or not, paying £10m for Kasey McAteer was hilarious and not a good decision. We had your pants down. But then you've had us back with Fatawu so we're probably square.

We scored loads from Burns' cut-backs and Chaplin's acute ability to know where they'd land. I don't suppose you fancy a Scottish international striker for £10 million.........? He’d walk into the side currently, but not for that money.

I agree for this year, assuming he can stay fit post ACL surgery, Burns is a good signing. As are Chaplin and probably the Bosnian lad assuming he can adapt to English football. The loans look good on paper too. Burns, or another player of similar profile is a great move in league one, on loan for one season. Burns in particular makes sense for the Chaplin link up. By all accounts a good character as well. But… He is a winger, who relies somewhat on his pace, players typically peak around 27yo in that position. We are giving him a three year deal at 31yo after an ACL when he could have moved for free a month ago…. and he got a one year deal as a prem back up on at least 5 figures last month. Winger is the worst position on the field to take this type of risk with age and injury. CMs and CBs it can work with, and some strikers. There is a pretty decent chance that after this season he offers little to nothing to us and sucks up big wages for the leagues we will be in. I’d celebrate him on loan, but not on a three year contract. Edited 6 August by FoxesWalk
