Length of contract looks a bit daft but could well be that Burns would want a higher weekly wage if he was only guaranteed it for 2 years. Might not be the financial catastrophe.

 

Though can understand the feeling that it is given our track record.

Oh no, he’s going to be in his mid thirties by the end of his contract. I hope we have a deal with a funeral directors as we all know that footballers are on their last legs by the time they hit 33. I’ve never seen a single player play well past the age of 30…

Ipswich fan here. I appreciate a 3 year deal is a lot for a 30+ and seems like there’s general unhappiness with the club is going atm which may have an effect. 
 

But I had to comment as I can’t believe all the negativity. This is a player who has been a key part of the 3 promotions in the past 4 seasons (two to the prem), and not only has he been one of our most consistent players in that time but he made a huge difference when he came back from injury last season, and our good form at the backend that got us automatic coincided with him coming back. Also not to mention he was still our quickest player. 

 

Speak to any Ipswich fan and they will say the same, for league one he’s a ridiculously good signing and  I have no doubt will be class for you when you’re back in the championship. 

 

Honestly Burns and Chaplin is a cheat code for league 1.

If you think about it logically, he's probably going to be paid the same amount whether his contract is 1,2 or 3 years - just getting a different amount each month.

By giving him three years, if he's good we have a player ready to play next year regardless of which league we're in.  If he's only on a 1 year deal, we'd have to either resign him (on championship wages) or spend money on a replacement.

 

If he's poor, he's easier to move on on a low monthly 3-year salary, than a higher monthly 1 or 2 year salary.  If he turns out to be crook, and can no longer play, don't we have insurance for that kind of thing?

I know there’s a lot of fanny burn with this signing, but I think in general, our transfer business this summer has been absolutely brilliant, both incoming and outgoing.

 

This is a good player. Proven. Not a Soumare, not a Daka, an absolutely known quantity.

 

We are actually shaping up to have a very talented squad and I expect us to actually do pretty well.

 

This guy will be decent for us for a year in and around the first team, should we be promoted, he’ll be decent as a squad member then with one year left on his contract we can flog him to a League 1 side for a couple of hundred grand or so.

 

Don’t hate this at all.

Reservations about the length of the deal and what we've coaxed him to League One with wage wise but he's clearly more than capable at this level. Bin Mavididi off and get a decent LW in to compete with Watson and our options on either wing will be pretty handy.
