Does anyone actually care?

Compared to most of you I’ll admit I’m a recent fan, ST holder 3 years, I got into it with my lad when he became a massive fan age 7/8 in the PL winning season. He was born here and feels Leicester through and through, I moved here for work about 25 years ago and have always loved Leicester as a city as I was made so welcome and it’s so friendly compared to so many places down south. Despite all that - and maybe we’d be labelled plastic fans so our opinion doesn’t matter - I care deeply about LCFC.
 

My family think I’m obsessed and they’re right. Devastated by our decline and so very angry with Top and Rudkin. Struggling to know how best to handle our fury, there’s so many contrasting views on here - protest, march, boo everyone including the academy lads, or avoid turning up at all. Sadly my lad has become disheartened with football altogether and has started to replace it with American football. So this likely my last season as a ST holder.

 

I just love going to games as for a couple of hours I forget about all the problems in my life and become totally absorbed in our team and our collective passion. That’s all that matters and if we lose that then the game has truly gone.

I cared passionately 6/7 years ago seeing us throw away our hard won place at the top table. I was livid 3/4 years ago seeing us relegated so predictably.

 

But now, I watch with interest, almost like an academic studying their favourite subject. Watching our terminal decline, frustrated but looking after my own health by no longer allowing it to affect my mood or stress levels.
 

There’s nothing I can do to influence an owner that lives 1000s of miles away, who’s thick, lazy and incompetent and has surrounded himself likewise.
 

Staying angry is just shouting at the moon.

Angriest I’ve been is Bournemouth game at home, remember running down stairs to shout at Maddison before grabbing pint at 30 odd mins to calm myself. The malaise and obvious descent felt inevitable then, and the inertia from everyone else in the ground frustrated me. Admittedly didn’t see it going this far south.

People do care whether they are angry or simply leave early because they can’t cope with watching any more. The problem over the last couple of years is that these kind of results have  become the norm and nobody is really surprised by it. I’ve almost stopped moaning to friends who support other teams about the club because they are already saturated.

They were in this division for 3 years. Around a decade ago their crowds dipped hugely to the point they had to really tempt people back. Our crowds in League One previously dropped to 16-18k. Any more of this and it will be commonplace.

Did Forest or Leeds lose 4-0 at home to Oxford or similar?

Yeah I care, else I wouldn’t be on this forum anymore. I care so much I gave up my decades consecutive season ticket, I stopped spending money in the club shop and in the ground, I attended every protest. I care because I’m not funding the failure of the club.

I’ve fallen out of love with football in general because of this club. I guess I’m lucky but I’ve never been someone who is a sort of “die hard” football fan? 
 

I lived and breathed this game for years, but I’ve learned to not be tribal about anything really, I haven’t given this club a penny since Brendan Rodgers started serving up his slop in the last 18 months, and I won’t give a penny ever again until we stop playing possession football. 
 

Football is an entertainment sport, I’m not entertained. 
I stick around here because I like the place, it’s sort of like a social stress relief forum, I still follow Leicester because my friends are football fans so it keeps me involved, truth be told if my friends weren’t football fans I’d have stopped watching us years ago and I noticed that change over time, in the last 5/6 years I went from doing the yearly friend group fantasy football, to then making my team and never logging in past the first few games because I had little interest, today I don’t even bother making a team. 

The club no longer cares about me, so why should I waste my time getting upset about the club, I can’t change anything, I’m irrelevant to them. 
 

I have other sports I follow like Formula One, and they don’t get to “not care”. 

Obviously I still have affection for the place and I would absolutely love to see us back in the top flight and fighting for the badge, but I refuse to ruin my weeks because of this bunch of charlatans.

I'm not going to dispute that those going every week, getting behind the team as much as they can and really feeling all this are the most ardent fans. No question.

For a lot of us. We do care. And we've tolerated shit in the past. But this is unbearable. It's not just bad, it's toxic, inept, destructive and sickening. Not even mentioning the financial shenanigans and attempts to circumvent process and responsibility.

Life is full of hardships. At the end of the day, football is entertainment. If it ruins your weekend - it's not worth it.

The reality is some will watch us regardless but not care that much if we are doing badly if its more about the social occasion. As much as we want everyone in the stadium to bay for blood, everyone is entitled to spectate as they see fit

Life today is hard.  Money doesnt go far, bills are rising.  There is a lot of shit for the average person to wade through on a day by day basis to add LCFC to the pile of misery.

 

Simply put, Leicester City in their current state, doesn't deserve any of my time and doesn't get it.  Like others, I'll make a post on here every now and again, and i'll check the final scores to see what the result was.  But if we won 10-0 or lost 10-0 my emotions would be identical.  I dont think I'm a Leicester fan anymore.  Just someone whose mindset is "I wonder if the team won today in the location where I was born and raised"

I get the feeling. Years ago, when we were 'owned' by Marcus Evans, I fell out of love with Ipswich and started watching my local non-league team in the then Jewson League Eastern Counties Premier. And although the fan base was about 100 hardy regulars,  they actually appreciated my support and it felt just like what I'd wanted from Ipswich. 

 

OK, the standard wasn't the greatest but you could watch with a cold pint glass in your hand, and a proper sausage hot dog from the catering truck, and have change from a tenner. My team won a few and won the local league cup one season, and we all went to the final on a hired coach. We set up a local pool league in the clubhouse and darts league, and other people started joining us regularly as well. It was a fiver entry to the ground, £2.50 a pint (this was down south, bear in mind, where we always get fleeced for drinks) and we had a laugh. 

 

I still love non-league today. Harborough Town are doing well locally in Leicester. If you feel disenfranchised by the current City side, try that?

This is my 2nd season of having a season ticket at Harborough Town. 

I used to coach a junior side there & played there as a junior myself (many years ago !)

I've been watching the seniors for a few years now, it's great. Obviously they've had a great run of promotions & decent FA Cup runs which helps, but the connection with the squad & fans is brilliant, they really appreciate the support they get.

I'd definitely recommended following a local non-league club.

Last time I had a season ticket was the Craig Levine era. I go to the odd game where I can but have been pretty disenfranchised in recent years. Weirdly (or maybe not weird) the two times I’ve started to find myself caring the most and following or posting on this forum (for therapy) have come with both our relegations to league 1. The first time was traumatic, but one is ****ing bizarre but even more devastating. I don’t really know what to do or say. Feel very out of control but it does help to read and talk about things online sometimes. Overflowing with anger because of this very disappointing club is not going to do your mental health any good. Top and rudkin will be gone soon and so will all of these players and managers. I think we’ll bounce back from this but it looks like it’s going to take years and it can definitely get worse before it gets better.
