King Power's time is up. The press links to Neil Lal's Indian consortium means we'll pass to another overseas investment group. I want a local company or a Leicestershire consortium to step up instead.

 

I'm old enough to remember when local builder David Wilson tried to invest during the Shipman era. Rooted ownership that understands the city and the fanbase is a dream.

 

It won't happen in modern football. The game has outgrown local wealth. The richest families in Leicestershire can't absorb our debt, fund the club, and clear the minefield of financial regulations. King Power's valuation is too high. Only overseas consortiums have this cash. We'll end up with foreign owners who see us as an asset, not a football club.

The list of who I'd take is getting smaller. It's clear Americans see English football as an untapped market and it just needs something like 14 of the EPL to vote against relegation,  then you effectively kill the EFL. 

 

I'd prefer the days of rich local man puts money into club for clout

US is most likely, having spent some time in business with consortiums from the Middle East, there’s not chance they would willingly pay £200m for a league one club……. Whereas US investors would view it very differently, if they felt that they could franchise the club……..  

 

The only thing is, there’s loads of US owners in English football now, what distinguishes them from one another?

In my opinion, eventually we will end up with an international closed league of the worlds best teams, with an American style set up with no relegations or promotions…..

 

So essentially we will have that as the “major league” and domestic football will be “minor league”…… there’s no chance it doesn’t happen, unless the EPL are prepared to bed the devil……

I'm not convinced the PL is so lucrative in comparison to other leagues even when the Super League was put forward it was always done with the view of retaining their PL involvement.

 

An International Closed League of any sort would be to replace the UEFA Champions League and other FAs equivalents

There's exceptions of course but the business and sporting culture of the nations producing billionaire football club owners naturally has an impact on their style. It's not randomised.

Man City and PSG are both owned by sovereign investment funds with loads of western execs pulling the strings

 

Your average non state backed Middle Eastern owner would be just as bad as KP

That’s potentially what a lot of potential investors are doing. Waiting to see if we drop further as the price will too should it happen.
