Luton Town boss Mike Newell has admitted he has been contacted about the vacant managerial position at Leicester City.

Burnley boss Steve Cotterill was believed to be the Foxes' top choice to replaced the recently deposed Craig Levein, but he has ruled himself out of the running for the job.

Newell has been strongly linked with the job, and did not deny the Foxes had approached him:

'I wouldn't lie, and I have been contacted but that's as far as it's gone.

'I haven't been offered any jobs, I'm in a job and that's all I'm concentrating on.

'It's natural to linked with jobs. It's always flattering because they're obviously looking at what's gone on here at Luton in the last two or three years and they're impressed by it.

'We've still got a lot to do here and I'm committed to this job. Until someone comes and asks me to be their manager I don't have to think about it.

'When the chairman says he's 100% committed to keeping me here, I don't know what he means by that. He hasn't said anything to me about it yet.

'Put it this way, if Liverpool offered me the manager's job tomorrow I'd be gone.'

I'm not too sure what to make of that

I like his style, but then again I liked CL's when he first turned up but losing games does nothing for you.

Do you have a link for that Babylon?

Just found it myself :thumbup:http://217.158.112.238/vsite/vcontent/cont...ws-item,00.html

I'm not sure what to make of that either, to me it reads like a guy finding a loophole and exploiting it - we've not offered him the job yet officially so he won't admit to anything, that doesn't mean we're not about to offer him the job. He doesn't say he'd turn it down if offered, just that he'd think about it... Hmm.

Well he's certainly leaving his options open, he's clearly interested in the City job but wants to make sure if he does stay at Luton everyones happy.

That's alot more positive than any of Cotterill's interviews. I wonder why we haven't made an approach yet? Or have we and the club are thrashing out a compensation package? Please let this be true.

Foxes turn focus towards Newell

Newell has guided Luton to eighth in the Championship

Managerless Leicester are thought to have spoken to Luton boss Mike Newell about the possibility of taking over at the Walkers Stadium.

Despite not revealing the club's identity, Newell said he had 'been contacted' and was flattered to be approached for the position.

Luton chairman Bill Tomlins, though, has said he is '100 per cent committed' at keeping Newell at Kenilworth Road.

Burnley's Steve Cotterill and Preston's Billy Davies have also been linked.

Meanwhile, Newell has spoken of his lack of purchases in the transfer window and has blamed financial reasons behind it.

Rushden midfielder David Bell was the only addition, but Newell said: "There were a lot of players available in January, but not to us, because we couldn't afford them. It was disappointing, but that is the situation we are in."

The trust have said we are interviewing lots of people. Just because we make an approach to a club doesn't mean they are the no.1 taget. The club wanted to interview, Cotterill, Davies, Newell plus others.

Reading all of this doesn't give me the impression that Newell would somehow be treated differently by City fans! :):)

Overall the impression I get is that he'd be a breath of fresh air, a man of integrity and just the sort who might lift us back to where we still belong.

at the moment we are targeting managers who are chasing the play offs, and rightly so, but there is always going to be a reluctance on the clubs and the managers part to leave due to that fact that they have a chance of achieving something very special this season. the best chance we have is to target a lower division manager, or a mid-table no hoper. me and myself actually want rob kelly to keep winning and then the case will be closed for now.

None of the ones who are being interviewed will be better than Newell though. Applicants that apply are usually low calibre who are desperate for a job, such as Peter Reid and John Gregory.

:( Its all been quiet on this front today, i expect it will stay quiet until Saturday evening or Monday morning, then we'll be likely to hear something

newell's comments suggest to me although the board say they are commited to him he disagrees (not enough backing ambition etc.).

His comment saying he would leave for liverpool is a message saying he will move for better oppurtinities. What is a ? tho is if leics asked him would he quit luton for us, that I dont know.

I think newc and derby been both managerless has made this manager hunt harder.
